Do you know what I miss?

A big fat bulky game manual! I'm sitting here holding my Galactic Edition of Spore and man - the case weights a ton! A big fat booklet with concept art and various other creature ideas to inspire you.

But that's not why I created this thread - the game came with an equally fat manual! Man I loved how games of the old days always came with these, but these days it's a rarity - most games, especially 360 games which usually only comes with a manual with a brief explanation of basic features and a control scheme.

Re: Do you know what I miss?

I have to agree there, i liked nothing more than a good read of a manual before i played the game. It added to the anticipation and also didnt leave you feeling stupid when you couldnt figure out what button did a certain action and the manual not telling you. Manuals these days tend to be about 30 pages long but only have about 4 in your language and they are very brief and basic explanations.

Me too. :( Every time I look in a game manual it's either black & white, extremely small, and boring, or there isn't one at all. It's just a pamphlet advertising games...

I remember the Tekken 1/2/3 manuals they had information on all of the charecters...I even read them more than twice!

Re: Do you know what I miss?

Manuals today have more legal stuff than game info. I'd rather learn how to play a game by playing it but I really like having some sort of manual or book to read when I'm away from the game.

VIVA LA FATTY MANUALS!

What's happened to the reading required to play the game? I used to love reading a good manual, especially one with some color, and actual hints about the game instead of contact information. A strategy guide is like a cousin to the game, that when you get a couple drinks in her, will tell you everything you need to know, but the manual is like a little sister willing to tell you half that for free! lol.

Re: Do you know what I miss?

I seem to be the only one not very fond of manuals. Sure, they are good for reading while the game installs, but I usually don`t read them after that.
And Spore isn`t very difficult anyways - I`m at the civilization phase already. And it sucks, I wish those couple of billion years wouldn`t pass so quickly.
Funny, the part that I`ve so far found the least interesting is the one-creature and creature creation phase. Both the Cell and Tribal phase were very fun (although too short and I´m not even playing on Easy Difficulty).

+Rep for the best analogy I've heard yet today.:D
