Don't drop that box!!!

A recent store email sent out to all GameStop and EBGames stores throughout the US and territories warns of the fate that awaits any employee, no matter how high up the food chain they are, if they should so much as accidentally break the tape of a box containing a shipment of the highly awaited Halo 3 game before the midnight launch.

Better hope no one gets clumsy...Gamestop getting strict with Halo 3

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

Bungie & Microsoft are really trying their best to stop anymore leaks for sure, like the ones for Halo, Halo 2 and Bioshock. Good find +rep.

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

 Man, i love how they're treating Halo 3 like it's the Queen's diamond or something. +rep Angel.

Well it is, it will be a crowning jewel in gaming royalty.

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

I'll have to see if there are the same sort of restrictions at Best Buy
Interesting info Angel

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

It would be insane to spend 10 years or something as a game shop assistant, never be late, never screw up, make sales increase 100-fold, consistently make Employee of the Month, get promoted and then accidentally slip whilst carrying a box of Halo 3 games and get sacked on the spot instantly.

:ninja: Man, when you put it like that, it's really ****ed up to be in their position.

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

I wonder if they can appeal against such a decision though? I mean, it is pretty nonsensical to fire an otherwise fully competent employee for making a mistake which is so trivial. Fair enough if they start snaffling the odd copy of Halo 3 early here and there, coz that is basically theft - but for something accidental that causes no loss or damage to the product itself it just seems a bit much.

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

Am I the only one who finds this utterly redicilous, no, ludicrous and stupid? What the hell, it is just a game...

Is this even allowed?

I think it was basically used as a warning and if someone saw someone accidently drop one and break the seal nothing would happen. They would put it aside and repackage it as soon as the release date hit.

Yeah its allowed as retailers have been foolish over the years and released games early because they wanted a head start on competition. That is illegal and so is breaking the release date so companies like Microsoft had no choice but to do this to stop them.

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

Jesus christ... what's next - the Halo Religion? It is just a game like any other. Sure, if someone steals a copy but just breaking the seal on the freakin' shipping box?

Crazy.

It will happen to all high profile games soon i bet but there are none with the high profile of Halo 3 yet so this is getting the full works. Its the retailers own fault in the first place, if they hadnt been selling them early and such Microsoft wouldnt have had to take any action against them.

I have to agree with you there, like seriously..What if a giant Bee or hornet comes flying in the store and into the employee's face? The employee freaks out of course, and ends up losing grip of the box, a case slips out, scrapes against the corner edge of the counter, and damages the "plastic wrapper" of the game, and the employee gets the boot??

I mean really, it wouldn't be his/her fault, it'd be the bug's fault... :noexpression: but the employee gets the boot....total madness..

Re: Don't drop that box!!!

But this doesn't punish the retail companies, just the employee grunts, Drakan...

Seems like they need strickter rules indeed, but this is the wrong way to go about it.

I think people are taking it to seriously and literally what was in the email. Although they said accidents would be punishable by being fired im sure they only meant 'under no circumstances' are the boxes to be opened. We all know what people would have done 'Oh it was an accident and it 'fell' open' so they just covered all bases to show they were serious. I doubt anyone would be sacked for genuine accidents that were witnessed by someone else as those game seals are damn hard to break by accident.

Well, that's their fault by wording the e-mail such as so. I don't doubt that there are tons of store managers who would take it literally and fire people if they 'nudged' the boxes.

The whole e-mail seems just... unecessary... and stupid. Why not just tell them to lock the boxes away or something?

It was used as a definite warning as if to say we have told you countless times before to not sell our games early or tamper with them and you continued to do so but we shall not be warning you again. If it happened again then they would sue the retailers or the retailers could take action against their staff... simple.
