Download Xbox games via Xbox Live

:w00t: What is most interesting is the fact that these would clearly need a HD and MS wasn't afraid of angering those who haven't don't have one yet.

The Official Xbox Magazine is reporting that the next Xbox 360 dashboard update will allow owners to download original Xbox games.
Titles such as Halo, Fable, Crash Bandicoot, and Burnout 3 will be available via Xbox Live Marketplace for approximately 1,200 Microsoft points.

Although Microsoft has not officially confirmed the news, according to the magazine the company plans to make more of its original Xbox back catalog of titles available in the future.
UPDATE: Microsoft has confirmed that 360 owners will be able to download original Xbox games for 1,200 Microsoft points.

In a press release celebrating Xbox Live's 5th anniversary, the company mentioned Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies and Fable as titles that would be made available.

Little update on this along with Scotts Thread:

Xbox Originals not perfect on 360 - CVG.com

CVG said:
Just like when you slip an old Xbox game disc into your Xbox 360, the games will run using software emulation which, by its very nature, causes all sorts of problems. MS has already documented these known issues ahead of the big December 4 launch.

Halo suffers from "very mild frame rate drops", so that's not so bad. Crimson Skies crashes if you select certain options such as the demos and trailers within the game, and some text goes missing.

Texture and sound issues haunt Fable, while Phychonaughts will throw a wobbly if PAL users with HDMI outputs are running 720p. Only 1080i and 1080p modes are supported.

Yeah I read that afterwards I was going to delete it but it had the Fable part so I kept it.

Another update
Xbox Originals Won't Have Achievements on 360

We were all hoping that the downloadable Xbox Originals would come complete with brand-spanking new Xbox 360 Achievements, and some sites even reported that they would, but sadly that's not the case.
Here's Microsoft's official word:
These are the original games that were created before Xbox 360. In order to preserve the integrity of the original gaming experience they provide, they will have the features available at the time of their initial release.
I believe I speak for everyone when I say, "Boo, hiss." If you can't give us Achievements, could you at least patch up those 'known issues' ?

Re: Download Xbox games via Xbox Live

Sucks that they wont have achievements, doesnt give you much reason or incentive to go back and play them again.

Re: Download Xbox games via Xbox Live

Makes it easier to get games you haven't played though
I think that will be the main draw

I dont doubt there are some people of course but with it being the Xbox's main flagship title there wouldnt be a huge amount. Most people who havent played it have no intention of doing so or it doesnt appeal to them. Hope the list is quite extensive and includes a good range of titles.

Re: Download Xbox games via Xbox Live

I just got Halo and I don't have Halo 2. I'm sure there will be plenty of games that I haven't played

Re: Download Xbox games via Xbox Live

Games such as Ninja Gaiden might interest me if theres a lull for 360 at some point next year, as i never had that but it was rated as an old classic.

Re: Download Xbox games via Xbox Live

Yeah that would be a good one and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
