Dragon Age help

If this spoils it for anyone, suck it up. I can't be bothered to put such tiny details into spoiler tags.

Don't know if anyone can help me but I'm doing the final quest (well, I'm presuming it to be the final one with the Archdemon) and I cannot kill the darned thing for the life of me...without anyone getting too technical on me about tactics and whatnot, anyone got any tips on how to batter the crap out of him/her/it? I've eliminated the generals and everyone is about level 18...the last team I used included me as a Rogue, Wynne, Shale and Alistair. I use Wynne for healing, Shale because he's rock-hard (no pun intended) and Alistair because he was already there due to the whole king thing earlier.

I keep out of range and use a longbow but it's not very powerful, I can't get out to go to a shop of any kind to upgrade and my other characters tend to die pretty quickly leaving me to deal not only with dragonface but also the darkspawn that get called up every so often to give it a hand.

Starting to get on my nerves a bit now, so if anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful. Ta :)

Re: Dragon Age help

Do you have the Magi from The Circle there to help you? If left unmolested those crazy guys can blast the bejebus out of the thing for you.

Re: Dragon Age help

You have to use the balistas that are positioned in the area (from what I remember, there are 3 of them). I had a mage (myself), a rogue, and two warriors. I basically just spammed the balistas on the Archdemon which wore it down fairly quickly, had my two warriors stay on it with close-range attacks, and had my rogue positioned next to me to help fend off any back attacks from the other demons that spawn in the area. I often provided lots of healing spells for my party, when things are looking rough you can summon backup and a large group of soldiers will come to your aid.

When the Archdemon flees to another location ontop of the castle, you'll need to go to one of the balistas that's the closest to it and resume the "spamming" as the other ballistas will be out of range.

There's more tips that I'll add once I can find 'em, unless that's enough.

Re: Dragon Age help

Another tip, that is universal for all dragon fights in the game, is to bring ranged weapons for everyone except the tank. The dragons will kick about and swipe with their tail which makes trying to flank 'em from the sides or rear hard if not impossible.

What Crystals are Shale using? She should be loaded with the "Spirit" kind to reduce the damage from he Arch-Demons spells.

I did have them but sadly they got the crap kicked out of them and died fairly quickly :(

I didn't actually notice the ballistas... I'll look out for those :D

The back-up is helpful but because my party seems to get battered so easily, going for the generals whittled the extra help down quite a lot.

Keep forgetting Shale's female...it does account for the fascination with accessories  - Er...at the moment she's equipped with Spirit and Ice - if possible I'll change both to Spirit but I don't know what's available to me without putting on the game. Hopefully I haven't gotten rid of it all...

I try and keep everyone away and using ranged weapons (something I learned from the dratted Broodmother and Flemeth) but the darkspawn make it a tad tricky at times...

Thanks to you both for your help - really appreciate it. I'm trying to make this one of the (very) few games where I don't call for a wahmbulance and get Steve to complete it for me...

Re: Dragon Age help

If I remember the fight correctly, it has two parts that repeat:

Part one where you fight the Arch-Demon mano-on-mano. Part two where it lands somewhere distant and attack you.

Doesn't the Darkspawn only appear in the second part when the Arch-Demon stands from afar and blasts your party with Spirit damaging spells? If so, you could unequip the ranged weapons for the second part and put your AI party members on survival duty whilst you blast the Arch-Demon with the Balista. Eventually the Darkspawn should stop spawning and the Arch-Demon should land again and start Part one over and you can re-equip the ranged weapons.

Re: Dragon Age help

Level 18? I was a level 25 when I got there.

Nevermind. Try to make your allies protect you, while you spam the ballista. Should be easy, coz' when you spam it the animation he gets keeps him from attacking, or moving.
