EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

EA has decided to drop the Taliban name from Medal of Honor in the face of political pressure and requests from the friends and families of fallen soldiers.

The in-game enemy previously known as Taliban will now be called the Opposing Force. However Executive producer Greg Goodrich didn't mention anything about political pressure in his official explanation, he instead suggested it was done solely out of respect for the relatives of soldiers killed in action.

Greg Goodrich said:
In the past few months, we have received feedback from all over the world regarding the multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor. We've received notes from gamers, active military, and friends and family of servicemen and women currently deployed overseas. The majority of this feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. For this, the Medal of Honor team is deeply appreciative.

However, we have also received feedback from friends and families of fallen soldiers who have expressed concern over the inclusion of the Taliban in the multiplayer portion of our game. This is a very important voice to the Medal of Honor team. This is a voice that has earned the right to be listened to. It is a voice that we care deeply about. Because of this, and because the heartbeat of Medal of Honor has always resided in the reverence for American and Allied soldiers, we have decided to rename the opposing team in Medal of Honor multiplayer from Taliban to Opposing Force.

While this change should not directly affect gamers, as it does not fundamentally alter the gameplay, we are making this change for the men and women serving in the military and for the families of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice - this franchise will never willfully disrespect, intentionally or otherwise, your memory and service.

To all who serve - we appreciate you, we thank you, and we do not take you for granted. And to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines currently serving overseas, stay safe and come home soon.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

Ok, so I don't play Medal Of Honour (o rly?) but I'm surprised it's taken this long to back down on calling them Taliban. It's a wonder they got away with it in the first place, to be honest.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

if i had to guess i'd say it has something to do with that guy recently who threatened to burn a koran.

the american government is probably paranoid about making the people they are at war with angry.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

So.. People were being b*tchy because the enemy team was called "Taliban"? I can understand people being slightly upset about it, especially if they have family in the Middle East but causing an uproar over it is pointless.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

Really? People complained that much? No offense, but that's pathetic.

If I lost a family member in a war and somebody made a game with the enemy name in it, I wouldn't care.

I guess they should go back and take out Nazis out of every World War 2 game cause they might find it offensive.

Oh wait, people who lived back then weren't THIS sensitive like this generation. Forgot.

EDIT: Took out language.

But seriously,

It's a VIDEO GAME.

My sympathy goes out to those families, but they should be able to use the word Taliban without people complaining.

Opposing Force is the same they used in Call of Duty 4 and if anything, it's confusing cause that means you could be fighting anybody.

Which means you don't know if you're fighting the Taliban or Russians.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

Why, did the Taliban threaten to sue them? What a ****ing joke.

Why not depict what is known by literally everyone to be a violent, archaic, millitant regime as that?

It's a pittance compared to the things the Taliban do to offend basic human rights, and the human race as a whole.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

Agreed.

Re: EA removes Taliban name from Medal of Honor

now everyone, lets not forget that taliban isn't politically correct anymore.
honestly, how can you all be so insensitive?
if you MUST bring them up, call them by their new PC name.
"people of differing views on women status who may or may not be murderers".
