Error, help plz.

I have installed Fable, and he worked normally. But when I turn it off, appears a message of error "Fable.exe found a problem and need to be closed". After that, I cant run the game, because when I get in the "click with the left mouse button to start the game" window, the error appears again, and my game is closed. The only way I know to run the game again is reinstalling fable...

Someone know how to fix it?

Have to actually tried a fresh installation yet to see if that fixes the problem?

Tried checking all your drivers are up to date also?

Well, at least, I could isolate the problem.

If I delete my profile (in "my documents\my games\fable\saves\myname\profile.bin") I can enter in the game again. When I get out, I cannot enter in the game again, but if I re-delete the profile, its possible.

Any idea?

Think you might have to do a clean install and uninstall Fable and make sure you remove all the folders and save data and maybe even the registry entries for it as seems something may have been corrupted.

As drakan said, you might have to delete som stuff in the registry. But be careful while fiddling around in there, you can seriously **ck things up...

If he needs any help of what files to remove id be more than willing to help. ^_^

ok. What I did:

1 - Uninstalled Flable
2 - Removed all files related with fable in "My documents" and "Program files"
3 - Removed all keys in registry related with "fable" and "microsoft games"
4 - Updated nvidia drivers
5 - Uninstalled and installed again k-lite codec pack
6 - Installed Fable again

When I start game, I create a new profile and play normally. When I try to get out, I receive this error message:

"Fable found a problem and need to be closed". Clicking in "error report", I can see:

AppName: Fable.exe
AppVer: 25.7.13.149
ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 00000000

Now, every time I start game, I got the same error message when I left-click in this screen:

"PRESS LEFT BUTTON TO CONTINUE"

If I start game in "safe mode", the same error appears.

I have 2 options to play again:

1 - Uninstall and install Fable again (impossible - too slow)
2 - Delete "profile.bin" file in "my documents/my games/fable/saves/myprofile" (better option, but not the best)

Second option is working fine, but doing that, I cannot load saved games. So, every time I start game, I have to do it from the beggining.

More ideas?

Solved! (or almost...)

What I did:

1 - Uninstalled K-lite Codec Pack 3.6.5
2 - Uninstalled Fable
3 - Installed Fable again

Now, its working fine, but If I install codecs again, error message reappears.

I have to find a solution to install codecs again. I will post here if I succedded.

Take a look at the numbers. They are messed.

Any idea why Fable is messing them with k-lite installed?

This is from a thread on the Official Lionhead boards about it...

I suggest not to use media codec packages like K-lite and instead of them download and install only the codecs you need directly from their developers.

I decided to do this:

Before run Fable, I uninstall Klite. After play, I install again. I create a .bat to avoid to run Fable with Klite installed. I think its a better solution because its hard to install every single codec.

Well glad you have seemed to find a work around for it, seems its a common problem as i didnt have to look far for people with the same one.

Using notepad, I created this "c:\fable.bat":

Now, I just call this fable.bat and it renames k-lite folder and re-renames it after I get out of the game. I dont need uninstall and install nothing anymore and its fast! Problem "solved"!

Interesting solution and one i probably wouldnt have thought to try, thanks for updating us on this. Might help some other people in the same situation as you.

I have eactly the same problem, but...
I actually never had K-Lite Codec Pack installed on my PC...
Also... I don't use a Sound Blaster card (I don't even have a soundcard)...
Cn yu tell me what is the cause of my problems? (Sorry for my bad english, I actually understand more, than I speak)
