Fable 2 Rhyme

As you all know, in the last Fable 2 Milesstone, we got a nifty little puzzle to solve:

Fable 2 Milestone Thread
Lionhead Studios News / LH Times Community Diary January 2007

I was suprised that no one made a topic about this poem yet, and I saw that on the Fable2.com forums they had already begun working on it. Not to say no one's working on it here. Our very own Fable Freak did his own analysis, I also have a couple ideas of my own on the matter and I'd like to see if anyone can come up with anything else.

Below is the poem:
As we do hone the Bowers Stone, to make a pretty sight
of docks and homes and cobble-stones, we only need the light!

Our characters, both his and hers, do also need this boon
for normal maps to shiny baps, when will it happen, soon?

The creatures sleep but soon will creep about the Brightwood soil
so don’t be miffed as teams will shift, once Damo's had his toil...

Front end and Hud, stuck in the mud, but help is on the way…
while pretty sights and rare delights, will come on Sibbick's day.

So don’t be scared of how we've fared, One day when we are stable
we'll dazzle eyes and cause surprise, and you will know its Fable.
Fable Freak's Analysis:
Damo's+Sibbick(or some unknown holiday)= Part of design team (guess)
Hud= Heads Up Display

My (Sephiroxas) Analysis:
  • The Poem
As we do hone the Bowers Stone, to make a pretty sight
of docks and homes and cobble-stones, we only need the light!
Our characters, both his and hers, do also need this boon
for normal maps to shiny baps, when will it happen, soon?
Now hone means "A fine-grained whetstone for giving a keen edge to a cutting tool" OR "To perfect or make more intense or effective" So that means they are perfecting bowerstone. to make a pretty sight, obviously. Boon's definition is "A benefit bestowed, especially one bestowed in response to a request." OR "A timely blessing or benefit."

"Our characters, both his and hers, do also need this boon"

So whatever they're doing to the "Bower Stone" They need to do to the characters too. OR the Characters will benifit from it. That's my interpretation at least.
  • Sibbick's Day.
One of the Artist Names for Fable was "Adam Sibbick" Don't know what Significance that has. It could mean they need a new artist, Or That he's on vacation and that he needs to come back and finish work. Or it could be the release date for the DEMO is on his birthday. Either way, I have no idea.
  • Shiny Baps
I looked for "baps, Define" on google And apparently it has to do with 3D Body Animation and Coding within a MPEG-4 Compliant Framework It was a PDF file, but I had to open it as HTML. Here's the original LINK. Anyway it says:
Each segment is individually specified and animated by means of two distinct bitstreams, referred to as Body DefinitionParameters (BDPs) and Body Animation Parameters (BAPs). BDPs control the intrinsic properties of the segment, namely surface local topology, geometry and texture. BAPs define the extrinsic properties of a segment, i.e. its 3D pose with respect to a reference frame attached to the parent segment. BDPs are actor-specific; Hence, the overall morphology of an actor can be readily altered by overriding the current BDPs. As opposite to BDPs, BAPs are meant to be generic :if correctly interpreted, a given set of BAPs will produce perceptually reasonably similar results, in terms of motion, when applied to different actor models specified by their own BDPs
Now I don't know what that all means So take that..whatever way you like.

Didn't they use 3-D max or something like it?

Ah well. I'd like to see some other ideas. :P

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

+rep for this and liking the analysis of both of you.

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

Yay! I can't wait to see more ideas! And be given more information. :D

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

It hurt my head soooo much trying to understand all that info, but nice one for trying to figure it all out :D

Excellent work as usual Seph +rep

Here are some of my thoughts

As we do hone the Bowers Stone, to make a pretty sight
of docks and homes and cobble-stones, we only need the light!

I think perfect is what was meant by hone. The "we only need the light" part sounds like they need to add lighting effects shadows and shading.

What I'm certain is that we will see bowerstone again!

Our characters, both his and hers, do also need this boon
for normal maps to shiny baps, when will it happen, soon?
So going on the need for lighting I think that the heroes also need lighting effects added and they are almost done.
Another meaning for Baps is trinkets or small details so maybe they need to add LE to those as well.
The creatures sleep but soon will creep about the Brightwood soil
Two possibilities struck me on this. One, creatures sleeping meant undead resting and they "soon will creep about the soil"
Two, they have created the creatures but not put them in the game hence they are sleeping. I have a stronger feeling about this speculation

so don’t be miffed as teams will shift, once Damo's had his toil...
This sounds like a re-org by "Damo" and once it is done development can continue

Front end and Hud, stuck in the mud, but help is on the way…
The HUD part fascinates me maybe they have a new way of display maps and quick keys that their are have trouble working out "stuck in the mud"
while pretty sights and rare delights, will come on Sibbick's day.

I had a feeling that Sibbick was a member of the dev team. extra rep for digging "Adam Sibbick" up, Seph. That must of taken some time to find .

Perhaps Adam Sibbick had a presentation of the artistic work done up to that point and it was scheduled on a particular day. Another possibility is that a milestone day in the project plan happen to fall on his birthday.

So don’t be scared of how we've fared, One day when we are stable
we'll dazzle eyes and cause surprise, and you will know its Fable.

Not much to garner from here but that they are sticking to making a game that plays and feels like Fable.

Maybe the "One Day" will be at the GDC in March

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

Another nice analysis Albion Knight +rep

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

Yeah, The lighting aspect on Bowerstone in the characters is interesting. Maybe they can't figure out shadows or how to make the skin reflect the light in a better way or something like that.

I DEF. Agree on the creatures part. That they haven't put the enimies in the area yet. Or maybe they don't have animation yet? Iunno

Sibbicks day was kind of hard. But It eventually led me to a list of everyone that worked on the game (No damo in this list). :)

Good Job. Rep+

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

I think its all pretty simple to understand really- at least I thought it was until I started typing and reading into things a little more. Some of what is below is just the same as what Seph and some others have assumed from the poem but I read a little more into some of the aspects.

:ninja:

As we do hone the Bowers Stone, to make a pretty sight of docks and homes and cobble-stones, we only need the light!
----I think this just means their at the point of adding lighting and shading effects to a Bowerstone area and that this area is almost complete, hence the use of hone, they are just perfecting it- maybe it will be the area shown at GDC in March. Bowerstone dock is obviously making a return but it appears it will play a larger role in the game if they are mentioning it directly- maybe the areas will be so big that we will have the option of travelling by ship from place to place or else they have made the guild seal defunct so we must use other means of transport to expediate our journey. Obviously the cobble stone concept could relate to the trailer- when the village morphs over time there are cobbled stones on the street there so maybe they are pointing us towards the trailer and towards an idea of what the newly designed Bowerstone will look like.

Our characters, both his and hers, do also need this boon
for normal maps to shiny baps, when will it happen, soon?
----Thier working on ways to light the characters and incorporate them directly into the environments so the aforementioned lighting effects will work with them as well- even if the character has a bald head- hence the use of shiny baps which in some areas is a common reference to hair or the head. As in- I got my bap cut today.

The creatures sleep but soon will creep about the Brightwood soil
so don’t be miffed as teams will shift, once Damo's had his toil...
----They havent finished the creatures and monsters for the Brightwood area but as such they are working it and expect it to be finished soon. I would assume Damo is the name of one of the people working on the game but currently he is busy with other parts of the development but when he is done with that he will start working on adding creatures to this area which is why teams will shift when Damo has had his toil. I know there is no Damo on the list but it could be a shortened term or a nickname for somebody called Damon or Damien. Or somebody with a second name which has Damo in it somewhere. Seph, could you link me to the list of people working on the game?

Front end and Hud, stuck in the mud, but help is on the way…
while pretty sights and rare delights, will come on Sibbick's day.
----So the HUD is screwed up or they cant figure out how to make it work well with the screen- or else they are currently using the HUD from the original game as a temporary solution which is why its stuck in the mud- it hasnt advanced from the previous games. As Seph mentioned Sibbick is an artist for the game- so they may have gotten him to work on a new HUD design or else they are awaiting his arrivial with some finalised artwork which will then be added to the game. If the artwork idea is correct then it could be the artwork for the finalised monsters for the Brightwood area.

So don’t be scared of how we've fared, One day when we are stable
we'll dazzle eyes and cause surprise, and you will know its Fable.
----Basically dont panic about everything- such as the HUD problem or lack of monsters in Brightwood. When the game is stable it will be released- so obviously dont be expecting a confirmed release date soon as they are only going to release it when they are good and ready with the game.

Thanks for the rep and the info dude. To be honest I had considered the possibility of the poem meaning something different, like it contained 'easter eggs' and stuff but if you hadnt created this thread I wouldnt have put my ideas down at all.

+Rep for you for creating this thread and originally posting your analysis of the poem.

EDIT: Okay- Just checked the staff credits and Damo could be one of two people:
Artist- Damian Buzugbe
Artist- Dominic Clubb

I would think maybe Damian, Just because of the A. Damo. But that's a silly assumption. I hope they give us another poem to crack. :ninja: And thanks again for your analysis as well as the Rep+.

KEEP THE IDEAS COMING PEOPLE :rolleyes:

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

hmmm I havnt heard of the bright wood place before also when they say lightting up the people in bowerstone i think that could also mean not only that thier adding lighting textures and what not, but what about adding life to the characters or npcs?
meh just my thoughts....
eh never mind
As we do hone the Bowers Stone, to make a pretty sight
of docks and homes and cobble-stones, we only need the light!

That seems to refer to lightiing textures almost complet rather than what I said...

I like the idea of light as a alternate for life- trying to bring the characters alive and stuff. Thats pretty cool :D

Yeah more than likely

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

Yeah but the "highly-trained" bots will post about it 3 months after it happens.

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

And will keep going until we're all dead and aliens run the internet from the little-known planet of Zongo or whatever...

Re: Fable 2 Rhyme

I can't believe I didn't see it before!!!!

Front end and Hud, stuck in the mud, but help is on the way…

A hud, in the fable world is a mini icon. I'll post a screenshot:

And front end is also included in the game coding in two places. [frontend.big & frontend.bin.] Screenshot:

So maybe they're having troubles with the files associated with that! I don't know but it sounds like it. So maybe it has to do with something like that.  :O
