Fable crashes upon loading a profile or save

First hello everyone! I got nostalgic about the game and installed it for the fist time after switching to Vista. The installation went well and the game was working properly. But when I tried to exit to windows the game crashed and the next time I started the exe it crashed the moment the game tried to load the profile. When I deleted the profile and started the game the problem seemed solved but when I tried to exit the same thing happened again. After a litle experimenting I found out that if i load a savegame while in the game it leads to anather crash.
I'm running Vista Ultimate with all the available updates, latest video drivers and my PC is way above the reqs.

Oh! And btw the error message is for StackHash_e54a. I've searched for it as well but haven't found a solution yet.

Could you possibly screenshot the error message you receive?

I've testet it on my laptop too and this is from the laptop error messaga but it's almost the same. The onli difference is in the Fault Module Name and Additional Information 1.
I testet it on my old PC under XP as well and there seems to be the same problem but I got no error message and just crash to Desktop after trying to load.

Have you tried reinstalling?

A few times!!! And I tried on 3 PCs so i don't know what else to do.
On one of them as i mentioned befor is running Win XP SP2 and the game was running on it before with no problems

This may not be your problem, but it was mine, so to others who happen upon this forum with Fable problems....

I had problems with Fable crashing everytime I started it.

The installation notes (when I finally read them) detailed a problem with the Audigy 1 range of cards.

Having recently reinstalled my PC I found the creative did not have updates for download (UK site - apart from a DRM update).

So I reinstalled from the original CD.

And these drivers were the problem.

I found a web update on the American creative site...

...and now the games runs.

The link doesn't seem to work for me, but I also found this:

my fable used to crash everytime i started it...
i tried several things like driver update, disabling the the onboard soundcard and some no-cd patch
i left the game installed on my drive, some days later i installed the vista transformation pack for windows xp....and again some days later i tried running the game again - and it worked.
my guess would be that my previous windows theme made fable.exe crash, i used windowblinds 4.6
...just my 0.2$.

Well I'm not sure about this but on my desktop PC the audio is SoundMax Integrated, on the laptop is SigmaTel or something (the laptop is Dell Inspiron 1501 btw), and on the old pc is AC`97 I think (or C-Media something from the device manager list).

Have you updated your drivers?

All except the SoundMax, because if i update it the sound is lost to the next win reinstall ::( , but this is a different problem.

I have been searching for answers to this, a lot of people seem to have the same problem but everyone has a different answer for it...

Did you install Fable in the default location?

I never knew Fable could be such a pain in the *** for some people :lol:

Running out of suggestions... Do you use any program that changes the theme (the way it looks) of windows?

Also, have you tried disabling the windows XP theme? Try using the "Classic Theme" it just may work...

I used disable visual themes both under XP and Vista and it did no help. As for the classic theme on XP i can't really do that because my sister have the ownership of the XP machine :D.

I think it's your sound card

The only problem i have is SoundMax. It does not have OpenAL. That is the thing the game needs and crashes on if you try to start it. It works fine it you turn the sound off.

Guess what! No change :(. It must be revenge from Fable for not even thinking about it for more than 1 year.

Maybe someone who knows more about computers will be able to help, because i'm out of ideas :wacko:
