I want to start off by saying that I absolutely loved Fable I and Fable II. I thought they were both superb games, and I played them to death. I've been looking forward to Fable III for months now and I was really excited when I bought it yesterday morning. ( I understand that I may have rushed through it)
I have to say however, this really disappointed me.
The game starts off alright, although it felt odd beginning as an adult. Things get interesting as you find the sanctuary and retrieve your first weapons. I was incredibly excited to morph my own unique weapon. This however is when it starts to fall apart.
It seems to me that my 'unique weapon' wasn't unique at all. I've seen it a thousand times in screenshots of the game. My brother also played the game, and his weapon similarly appears in many screenshots. What happened to the 80,000+ ways a weapon can evolve. Disappointed with my weapon I decided to visit a weapon store and buy another to restart. They all evolved without me touching them... that's just cheap in my opinion.
Not only that but the Sanctuary, though I admit it's neat. Was it not designed as a way to permit all of the items that popped up in the menu without taking ages to browse through them. That would have been fantastic.. except that there are probably 30 items to collect in the whole game (exaggeration maybe) but really.. there are hardly any hairstyles, about 7 suits.. (My DLC content for some reason didn't work either)
These things aside.. I could have forgiven them. What really disappointed me was the story.. It just makes no sense. There is no connection between this game and past Fables. Your brother never mentions the darkness, despite it being the reason for his ruthless rule. The darkness as well seems completely random, spawning as you randomly wash ashore outside a cave in the middle of a place you've never been, after having your ship destroyed by an unknown fleet who also just appear out of nowhere.
The Crawler. The games 'boss' I guess... I couldn't believe it. Where did he come from? why was he there? why did we only get two side screens of his face throughout the entire game. Then get to kill Walter.. where they too lazy to just create an actual boss in the game? Christ.. Twinblade had more depth to him than this entire games dark evil army.
And being king. 'You'll feel powerful man, POWER'
yeah cheers Peter, I got to listen to a few people talk, with Reaver being the only adversary to every single trial/hearing thing. Another example of laziness.
Where was the standard Fable formula in this game? where was the quest that spanned over the years.. the expected capture and escape quest.. the changing hero, in fact the feel of being a hero at all. Where are the side quests that actually.. I don't know add to the atmosphere. It just all feels rushed and poorly put together. I never thought I'd say it but.. I think Fable III kinda sucks
sorry for the loooong post by the way. Just needed to express my thoughts.
