Fable III PC Details
Peter Molyneux fills us in on what Lionhead's doing with its RPG series.

The recent announcement that Fable III was coming to PC was interesting news for those who game on Windows. Lionhead Studios' popular role-playing series had previous appeared on the platform, released as Fable: The Lost Chapters back in 2005. Then Fable II came out, but only for Xbox 360. So why did Lionhead decide to skip the PC for the second Fable game, then again go multiplatform for the third? And will there be any exclusive features made available to PC gamers? Peter Molyneux, current Design Director for Microsoft Game Studios Europe, provided some answers.
First up, just some basic details: why give the green light to a PC version of Fable III? "The decision to make a PC version was made when we started Fable III," said Molyneux. "The idea was not to simply do a conversion but a standalone custom designed game for the PC which would be part of the Fable franchise. My fondness for the PC as a gaming platform probably played a part in this process. And you can expect to see it at the same time as the Xbox 360 version."
As for PC-specific features, it doesn't sound like there's much in store. According to Molyneux, "The PC version has been developed with the PC platform in mind so naturally the control mechanism has been crafted around the mouse. There are no PC exclusive features as such but Fable III will be just as compelling on PC as it will be on Xbox 360."
While there won't be a Collector's Edition of Fable III on PC, "we're making sure that digital content from the Xbox 360 LCE version will be available for download for PC players." All the post-release downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version will also be available to owners of the PC game.
If you're sitting there wondering whether you might not want to check out Fable III because you missed its predecessor, Molyneux says that shouldn't be an issue. "Yes I can understand your concern but I should stress that although Fable has become a series, we create every iteration as we would develop any Lionhead game, as a standalone entity. Fable III will be a very different experience from Fable II and I honestly don't think that PC gamers will be in any way disadvantaged by not having played Fable II. In much the same way that any Xbox 360 gamer will be able to jump right into Fable III without having played either of the earlier games."
Though you don't really hear this feature talked about much since the days of Shadowrun and Halo 2 PC, Molyneux also confirmed that there'll be no cross-platform play with Fable III. On the subject of support for Project Natal, the Xbox 360 motion sensing camera, Molyneux stated, "Project Natal has been developed specifically for Xbox 360 so it's just not possible to include Project Natal features in a PC version."
