Fable: TLC PC Version Help

I just bought Fable: The Lost Chapters for my PC and I'm having some problems getting it to work. Everything installed nicely and all of the intros play without any error. I made my profile and everything but then when my profile tries to load so I can start the game my computer restarts. I checked and my computer meets all of the requirments to play the game so I didn't know what to do. I went to the support center at Microsoft's website and checked for my issue in troubleshooting. I found my issue and it told me I needed technical help. However, the cost for telephoning for help is $35 which is more than I paid for the game! I tried to email them but I need the 'product ID'... I don't know where to locate that as it is apparently not the same as the serial code or product key, whichever you prefer to call it. I'm kinda stumped. I really want to play this game. Can someone help me fix this problem please? Or at the very least tell me where this product ID is located?

Thanks for the help!

By the way, I'm sorry if there are already 6 million threads on this topic, I'm just trying to find an answer as fast as possible!

Hope to see all of you guys around the forums, since I'm new and all! :D

Re: Fable: TLC PC Version Help

First off welcome to the forums ^_^

Turn off the automatic restart option to view the error message. To turn off the Automatically Restart option, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Under System failure, click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
5. Click OK, and then click OK.
6. Try to reproduce the error message.
7. Print Screen The Error and Post Here For Further help and i will see what the error might mean.

Re: Fable: TLC PC Version Help

Okay, I can do all that up to the Print Screen for the error thing. I must sound really stupid, haha. But I'm not... I know how to do print screen when Windows is on but my Windows turns off when it shows me the error... So how do I keep the screenshot there so I can save it to my computer if I have to shut down my computer afterwards?

If you do the above your windows should not turn off or shut down it should ONLY show you the error and stay on so you can printscreen the error message it throws up instead.

Re: Fable: TLC PC Version Help

The error screen appears entirely blue with what systematic text which reads as follows (I wrote it down so I could type it since I can't print screen it):

Error Screen said:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in this stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x0000000F, 0xB1627B30, 0x00000000)

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

Gah... This is depressing. :'(

Re: Fable: TLC PC Version Help

Try this:

- Open Display Properties > Advanced > Monitor and UNcheck "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display."

- Set the desktop to 800x600, 16bit, 60Hz. you'll be able to change this once/if you can get the game to start. As it might be that the game is extremely sensitive to what resolution and refresh rate you use when on the desktop.

If this doesnt help either could you post your computer specs please? Do you have windows blinds aswel?

If you have a Creative card you may need latest version of Open GL:

Creative Labs Developer Relations

If none of these work just post specs and i will try to assist further...

Everything looks ok to me in there, you managed to get Fable to crash and get error message instead of computer restarting yet with my technique above?

If you could maybe get a error message to pop up instead of computer restarting and get screenshot of that i could maybe help further.

Yea did that. Except it says my Windows has shut down. So there is no way to make a screenshot if I can't get back to my desktop. I did type the error messgae though...
