Fallout 3 cleared for Australian release

After originally being refused classification in Australia and many gamers worried that it would never see the light of day there its been cleared.

Bethesda's Fallout 3 has been granted an MA15+ rating by Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification, clearing the highly anticipated RPG for release in the country later this year.

The game was initially refused a classification by the ratings body in July due to its portrayal of drug use, but has now secured a rating following a number of content edits, according to an OFLC report obtained by IGN.

"The drug references within this revised version are justified by context and lend a strong playing impact to the game," reads the OFLC's assessment.

"The board... found that [the] relationship between drug use and incentives and rewards is not such that it promotes or encourages the use of prescribed drugs. Therefore the game does not warrant to be Refused Classification and can be accomodated at MA15+ with a consumer advisory of "stong drug references"."

Well that's good news
It seemed that the drugs/medications that were in the game have unwanted side effects. That seems better that having them be consequence fee.
What did they think if Bioshock's eve and plasmid injections?

Bioshock came to mind when i read the original statement, however as far as im aware it was never refused classification. I think they saw the dismemberment and violent gritty nature of Fallout 3 first and then tried to get it banned for a half arsed drug argument. I dont think they actually knew what they were talking about to be honest.
