So far the next game in the Far Cry franchise has been met with critical acclaim (averaging 92% on 360 as I type this) and fixed pretty much everything that put people off Far Cry 2 from what the reviewers have been saying, so here are the review scores on Xbox 360 so far...
The game is set for release on 360/PS3 and PC on December 4th

Can't wait to see this appear in my birthday gifts stash. For once, a good game comes out on my birthday! :D

You know how I was talking about saving my money? Yeah, im putting aside money for this game, this has to be my most anticipated game of the year! Looks amazing, cant wait. Picking it up tomorrow!

I enjoyed the first because it tried something pretty new and enjoyed it though seemed to lose its way about half way through the game. The 2nd had lots of good ideas but most were poorly executed and the game frustrated me to the point that I didnt even bother to finish it. However im actually excited for the 3rd as it looks superb and looks to have fixed pretty much all the things that annoyed me in the 2nd.

Heres the launch trailer

Wasn't originally looking forward to this game because I had never played the series before (shame on me..), but as of the past several days had been looking at gameplay footage and LGR's review of it. So I went from not caring, to painful anticipation. Game looks awesome, but I'll have to wait until the holiday to get my hands on it if I want to still get gifts for other people.

I'm guessing I might be lost in the story if it carries major things over from its predecessors, but I'll probably end up reading the wiki in that case.

None of the Far Cry games follow each others stories, they are all new characters and new stories and essentially different games so dont have to have played any others.

Couple things that kind of annoy me with the game.. such as; (May have spoilers..?)

1. You cant make your own maps, then play them split-screen (Offline), which is freakin stupid, the old games could.
2. Their are 4 characters for co-op, but can only play 2 player split-screen.. why not 3 or 4??

I guess majority of people play XboxLive, but still, I find it just as much value if they have it up to 4 player split-screen on video games

Not sure why you cant do the first but lots of games restrict you to only 2 player split screens in co-op these days. Can sometimes be a hardware restriction with some of the more detailed game engines having to render so much on the same screens at once without screen tearing, FPS drops and loss of visuals.

Its a shame though, sure graphics are awesome, but gameplay and multiplayer is more important (IMO)
From what I've seen, this game and Skyrim have had around the highest ratings ever.

Im impressed

I dont really think a game like this needs a tacked on multiplayer, I like that they included a type of co-op (it sounds like Battlefield 3's co-op mode) as I think co-op is underused these days but its multiplayer doesnt sound like it brings anything new to the table. I really like the look of the Single Player and the story though which is what it is been praised for the most. The RPG elements of it sound great and overall it looks superb & I cant wait to play it and thats coming from someone who disliked Far Cry 2 but thought the first was decent enough for a mention. Apparently there can be around 35+ hours of play if you explore and do lots of activities and that is impressive for a shooter, currently 122 hours into Skyrim so I think I will be playing this a lot too.

Balls yeah! No worries for me then.
