So after an hour of mashing f5 I managed to get through on the Glastonbury Festivals website and got a ticket. I've only been once before (2011) and it was rad. Saw Two Door Cinema Club, Biffy Clyro, Newton Faulkner, OK Go, Coldplay, Kool and the Gang, Radiohead and many many more. Oh U2 as well but they were rubbish. Although Bono did speak to a man on the International Space Station which was pretty cool. Alot of people say Glastonbury's too mainstream but it's a laugh. This summer I wanna hit up quite a few festivals, so please give me recommendations, experiences or geneal things about any festival you'd like.

I normally go to Sonisphere or Download festival but didnt go to any this year as money was tight after buying my house.
Never been to either of them, are they similar in atmosphere and music? I know friends that have gone to Sonisphere and said good things.

Well they are more for the rock/metal fans but Sonisphere has a rather varied lineup. Though it was cancelled last year and unsure when its returning to UK. When I last went the headliners were the big 4 of Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth along with Slipknot and Biffy Clyro with sub headliners Motorhead, Diamond Head and Limp Bizkit. Last Download festival I went to the headliners were AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine and Aerosmith with sub headliners Them Crooked Vultures, Deftones, Motorhead, Megadeth and Stone Temple Pilots. Atmosphere was great at both of them, crowds for Slipknot and the Big 4 were epic.

I love how festivals lower us as human beings back to our more neanderthal days. Dressing in strips of clothing, covering ourselves in mud, tribal dancing and becoming one with nature. More or less.

For me, my one festival experience this year involved losing my glasses, walking around in "god knows what" in my barefeet, being sexually harassed by a French lesbian, ripping my dress on top of a hay bale revealing my bra and becoming so drunk that I walked through 5 camp sites before I found my own. I'd mention some of the bands I saw, but I didn't really see them, being pretty much blind totally ruined that part of the experience for me. But Travis, Fink, The Wombats, We Are Scientists and Frightened Rabbit were among some of the bands I heard.

Can't wait for next year.

I'm determined to go to Bonnaroo next year.

If you haven't heard of Bonnaroo it's one of the biggest festivals we have in the United States. Now, it is lacking a serious-sounding name like Glastonbury, but its still pretty baller.

They're all bands I'd love to see but usually don't play at Glastonbury, a bit too heavy for the crowds there. I'll check out Download and Sonisphere for 2013, thanks

The shenanigans that occur at festivals are one of the main reasons why I love them. I've heard stories of people breaking in to festivals in the most elaborate way. One guy spent 7 hours trying to get in. Supposedly if you hangglide into the Glastonbury festival without a ticket you're aloud to stay, it could be local legend.

I'll check it out as well, chances are I won't be able to go just cause of the distance but if I ever end up spending a summer in the States some festival knowledge would be ace

V Festival can be a bit hit and miss but if the line up is good, it's worth checking out. Just go to the Weston Park one not the Chelmsford one because the former is full of stoned people which means they are mostly friendly and happy whereas the latter is full of drunken morons who want to ruin it for everyone and cause fights.

And if you go to Weston Park you're near us lot - this either frightens or arouses you, depending on how you currently feel...

Well if you'd been in California this past weekend, you could have gone to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. I wasn't there because I had other plans, but it's where I saw Robert Plant last year. If you ever get a chance to go though, do it. It's a completely free annual three day festival that happens in Golden Gate Park around the end of September or the beginning of October.

Also, I'm determined to go to Burning Man at some point in my life.
