Not everyones cup of tea but i enjoy the Fifa series being a football fan myself and EA Sports have released the first little pieces of info about this years instalment via the French version of Official PlayStation Magazine.
  • FIFA 12 introduces the 'Impact Engine' which properly tracks and formulates contact between players, including their hips, knees etc.
  • The AI will also keep track of areas of the body players have been injured during a match. Players can also become injured off the ball if abused too much, especially late in the game.
  • FIFA 12 also introduces 'AI Vision Game' (rough translation), which promises to make passing more realistic. If you try to complete a pass to a player that's not within visible range, for example, it's less likely you'll complete the pass. EA hopes this will get rid of "blind passing".
  • Personality Plus is more developed and should influence AI players' passes this time.
  • AI is said to be "more human", with each player acting more or less according to his abilities. One example given is when an AI player sees Fabregas coming towards him with the ball, he'll act more carefully.
  • OPM describes "new presentation" of matches in FIFA 12, which are said to be very much inspired by English football crowds.
  • The game includes three new arenas, this time with integrated benches along the sidelines and "impressive lighting effects" according to OPM France.
  • Integration of a new short dribble with the left stick.
  • The game features a new camera that's noticeably closer to the ground.
  • There's also a new menu interface that appears to be simpler and more ergonomic than before.

Without reading the post, let me guess:

It's going to be a Soccer game that's only a little bit more advanced than FIFA 11, making a year old game obsolete, and forcing consumers to buy it because they need the latest technology, despite the fact that it's no more enjoyable than it's predecessor.

Last FIFA game I had was 08, and that's just as fun today as it was when I got it, and just as fun as 09, 10, and 11.

In a way thats true but some updates really improved the game. The introduction of 360 degree dribbling control in fifa 10 for example made older ones feel clunky and awkward and i went back to play Fifa 09 afterwards and it didnt feel right. Also they updated a system with the ball being given its own physics and not being merely chained to player animations and moving in straight lines which made things more unpredictable. Then they brought in the ability to change a player move halfway through an animation to stop them being easily scouted by other players and made player movements look more fluid. All were minor changes but together vastly improved the game.

I had great fun with Fifa 10 and the differences between it and 11 are minor but 11 is the better game as it was improved upon but theres nothing that stopped people staying with 10 and people werent forced to get 11. I did purchase 11 and have enjoyed it a little more than i did Fifa 10 and 10 & 11 were MUCH better than 09.

So yeah maybe some changes are minor and system updates and tweaks might not warrant the full price to some people but the hours ive put into Fifa titles more than justify the price to me.

I agree man, but I just really dont like it that EA release a new one every year. It's like every little idea they have to make the game better justifies them making a new game for it. Send a patch, or an expansion pack or something. Before making a whole new, full priced game, wait a few years for the engine to make a real leap forward, then you can justify the new title. It's almost like they're deliberately trying to release as many titles as they can just to make their balance sheet look better, but we all know EA are better than that.

I can see what your saying and 'some' things could be tweaked with a patch such as transfer changes, kit changes and sponsor changes and maybe some of the physics being tweaked. All depends on how much more they could change or tweak in another 12 months to warrant that development time. I think if they dropped the price of them then no-one would argue about it.

If they had 2-3 years to develop one and it wasnt HUGELY different then people wouldnt want to buy it and also they would risk alienating people who dont want them to fix what isnt broken and are to lazy to do the transfers from team to team themselves (even though EA do release updates that do this automatically in the Transfer Windows) and they have released some kit changes in patches too. To be fair to EA they have supported each game really well in the 12 months in between new games. Some companies would release it and then start making the next right away and forget about supporting it because another will be out in 12 months. They have patched and updated it 6 times to my knowledge and released new features and mini expansions too.

Im usually against yearly installments of anything but ive enjoyed the Fifa series and since 09 they have continued to improve each year, they will hit a wall soon i imagine though as 10 and 11 were highly rated and i dont know what else they can improve on besides the short list they have put here. Even took the crown off PES series of best football game around in many peoples eyes.
