Fox News Report on Halo 3 Trash Talking and Racial Slurs

YouTube - fox news halo 3 trash talk

I dunno, I found it interesting anyway. I, however, have never seen that kind of language on Xbox Live ever. PC, yes. Xbox Live, never. Generally whenever I play Halo 3 matchmaking I get to have a good laugh and nothing ever goes too far.

What do you guys think? Do you reckon that Halo 3, or even just online gaming in general is polluted with too much trash talking? Do you think it's a risk to children or do you think the media is making too much of a big deal out of this? I'd be interested in hearing your opinions.

Replace "internet" with "Xbox LIVE" and there you have it.

Xbox Live is full of mouthy kids who never shut up, Halo is one of the biggest culprits for it. I can have a laugh and a joke with people on Call Of Duty 4 and general age range seems higher and people take it more seriously and talk more tactics than anything. However Halo seems to be full of 12 year olds with squeaky voices who have to scream and shout obscenities at any given opportunity. I dont think its a risk to children i think its a risk to adults as its the children that are the problem.

If your offended just report them and get them banned from Live eventually its simple.

Yep, it gets that bad. Heck, I just got cursed a little while ago while playing.

I remember on a game, some squeaky little chav thought it would be great idea to mouth off at me, big mistake when he left the safety zone, He didn't get a single hit in, pwnt! (legend of mir 2 think it was)

None of what is said, to my understanding, is anything someone would say in person to another unless they have had a skinful of alcohol and perhaps a frontal lobotomy...

If people are so worried about children hearing trash talk - well, here's my little tip for you: Don't let your child play an adult-rated game.
Don't give them Live access - where else is a 12 year old gonna get the cash from unless mummy and daddy give it to them?

Kids have the foulest mouths around - largely because they still think referring to everything as "gay" is hilarious and because cussing is "cool". Most of what is said during online play is, to my mind, out of sheer frustration or out of finally beating someone down who has been massacring you for the last twelve hours. I doubt any of it will be meant seriously...although there are always exceptions and with any kind of online experience you are bound to have some paedophiles, racists, morons and the like who just like to cause trouble. Like when you get those idiots who join your team and then proceed to kill you - doesn't take long before they get kicked from every game they join and end up either banned or having trouble finding someone to accept them on their side.

Hey woah not all teenagers are foul mouthed morons. I'm not am I?

Re: Fox News Report on Halo 3 Trash Talking and Racial Slurs

 Did I say "all"? And I have never encountered you on Live so I wouldn't know whether you are foul mouthed or not ;)

I have little patience with those who use foul language as a common form of vocal expression - it shows a distinct lack of apparent intellect. Cussing all the time just because someone stole your energy sword or whatever just comes across as juvenile.

Besides, it is more the pre-teens that think swearing is amazing - the older you get, the less likely you are impressed by someone's repertoire of curse words so you are less likely to use them when it comes to something so trivial as a game. You tend to reserve them for more intense situations...getting knocked down for the skull in Oddball doesn't qualify

Re: Fox News Report on Halo 3 Trash Talking and Racial Slurs

That's why I don't like playing online/Live/MMO'S because a lot of people are *******s. :O

Re: Fox News Report on Halo 3 Trash Talking and Racial Slurs

Jesus, this is like the cookie monster blaming a guy for eating cookies! What is Fox trying to prove, it's not like they don't do worse on News.

Re: Fox News Report on Halo 3 Trash Talking and Racial Slurs

It doesnt really bother me, just having to hear someone scream and shout a lot is aggravating but then you can just mute them in most games. Most of us curse and such when playing at some point.

Re: Fox News Report on Halo 3 Trash Talking and Racial Slurs

I think dropping in the odd swear is ok, I mean, it's just a word. But using it as every second word is just retarded.

Of course, its natural to swear when playing and i do it all the time. Its when its really over the top and shrieked at you like you have just shot their mum or something it gets annoying. Mainly my dislike for kids i imagine and their voices annoying the hell out of me when they get all hyper and go on a swearing tirade.
