Just curious as to if anyone has been watching this. I have never read the books personally but ive been enjoying the new TV show. Starring Sean Bean and so far its 5 episodes in and shown on Sky Atlantic in the UK and HBO in US (unsure of channels elsewhere). So far its been highly praised by critics and viewers and i think its off to a brilliant start, they have said it follows the books quite closely too (something i couldnt say as to how accurate that claim is). Its aimed at adults with violence, sex and nudity and the episodes are a meaty 55mins long which i like too. Already been renewed for season 2 they have said also.

For information check out IMDB page here.

I was going to but I missed episode one, so I'm going to wait for a rerun. I must say it looks good, plus it's got Sean Bean in it (most underrated actor ever.)

Sean Bean is good in it, there are some really good performances in there. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister is excellent for example.

watched episode 1 and i thought it was alright. not great, not terrible, but alright. good acting, well shot, high budget, but i haven't found the story very compelling yet.

so yea, i was getting ready to watch episode 2 shortly and i'll post a second impression later. so far it's not great, not terrible, just ok.

by the way, my boss's dad (coincidentally also my boss) has read all the books and said 2 things:
1. the show has been very faithful to the books
2. don't get attached to any character because everyone in the series will die and be replaced eventually. he was careful to emphasize almost everyone.

The first episodes are slow paced to build character and story but apparently there will be plenty of action to follow in later episodes.

Well so far on episode 5 there hasnt been an abundance of it but there has been blood, gore, death and sex. Apparently there is much much more to come from what people have been saying.

Down to the last episode of Season 1 this week and how many of you have been watching it? Ive been really impressed with what ive seen so far, its bold, violent, features sexual scenes aplenty and has a great plot and cant wait for the finale and then Season 2 to air.

The books are good so if they have remained faithful to them it should be good. Plenty of violence and sex from what I recall - what more can you ask for?

i watched up to episode 8, but i also started reading the book. i'm waiting til i finish the book to finish the season...so far i have no idea what page i'm on since my epub reading program doesn't show pages...but i can safely say i'm in the vicinity of episode 6 or 7 and a little more than half way through it.

they gave the author on-set creative control from what i hear, so nothing will happen that will make people who read the books sit up and go "WTF IS THIS ****"

also, Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow ftw :D

I havent read the books but from what reviews have said they have stayed pretty close to them and as Cheez said they have given the author creative control too.

There have been about 4 stand out episodes so far (all have been good) but 4 that come to mind were absolutely brilliant. My girlfriend has only seen half of Episode 9 because i was watching it but she was interested and now wants to watch it from the start (luckily i have them on Sky+). So up to the point you have read has the show stayed around the same as the book then?

Peter Dinklage as Tyrion is really good, i like him a lot.

the beauty of it is it's got as intricate and believable a plot as anything. i'm told that the parallel stories and characters have gotten so vast in the books that they have had to do the latest section in the story in 2 books each only covering half of the characters and regions. my only worry is that they will run out of decent actors who would be willing to work for HBO to fill the number of roles they need.

can i also say i'm amazed with how many decent child actors they managed to get? Dexter was another high profile show and the kids they got to play Astor and Cody weren't up for it. The Game of Thrones kids have way more they have to do than whine about how their mom is dead and they don't like their step father. give it 2 more seasons and everyone and their sister will be deeply involved with this show.

Two words.

Jon Snow.

"...But he's abstinent..?"

"I can change him..."

Yes, I've been watching it. Good show. A tad rude, but hey, still good. I'm actually surprised how good it is, I wasn't really expecting much(No, I haven't read the books - To be honest I hadn't heard of them until the show surfaced), but my brother heavily recommended I watch the first episode and I decided to watch them all from then on.

Unlike a show called Camelot which aired on Channel 4 the other night, bah, awful.

With any luck, I'll catch it around year 3000 when they will first air it in Sweden.... sigh.

Just hope HBO give it a chance as they have a habit of dropping shows after a handful of seasons even if viewing figures are still decent. Its being showed on Sky Atlantic over here so wont have the viewing figures it deserves yet as not everyone has it. Hoping that after Season 1 concludes they will show it on a channel everyone has so it gives people a chance to watch it who couldnt first time around.

O rly? Well, fair enough then.

I mention sex and you want a plot? Where is Hobbe and what have you done with him?

Of course I still want the sex!! But a film with sex minus a plot (i.e Suckerpunch) is just a more expensive version of porn.

i finished the first book tonight, which is supposedly all covered in the first season and... well... they really avoid large-scale battles like the plague. they must lack the budget for it, but still... seeing two armies of over 20,000 on each side clashing is completely and utterly implied.

i'm not angry, it's still a good show, i just expected something.

I read an interview with the creators this morning and they are planned for Season 2 apparently. It was budget and time constraints that caused them to not use them for Season 1. The whole build up in the last 4 episodes was towards it so expect it in Season 2. Think they were a little wary about blowing the budget in Season 1 too as they are going to need an even bigger one for Season 2. With the inclusion of Dragons and talk of using CGI Direwolves for some parts too as well as the large battles.

They went into great detail about some scenes in the interviews and even the reasons they were shot in different ways and ideas they had they didnt use. For example why they showed one beheading and then turned away from the other (wont detail because of spoilers). In one case the person was told to watch it happen so they let the viewers see and in the other the witness was told to look away so they cut away from it. Then the idea they didnt use was for a battle shot from Tyrions eyelevel watching The Mountain cut down loads of people in battle. However they said one scene like that wouldnt have done the whole battle justice so they cut it and wanted to save large battles for Season 2.

Heres one interview:
