General questions on Fable 2.

I heard that the hopefull time of release(note not release date) is first half of 2008. Just wanted to clarify if that is some what true.

Also what the hell are poppies? Are they people, or a flower like in real life? 15 mil is alot. so i dout people. But then if a flower than i am curious to the significance to the game.

How long have they been working on Fable 2?

Do we get to name the dog?( like when we chose a hero title in fable.)

What about our kids? (could we choose from a list of names for them. that would be cool.)

I hope they keep the system with the clothes but add layering. so you can have a cloak over top of your armour/clothes. Any word on that yet.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

I never thought of naming the kid... In fable most of the wives didn't have names.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

Hi there - well, I can't answer any of those questions except that poppies are indeed red flowers and they were in the original Fable and Fable The Lost Chapters, so I'm guessing that they made more poppies as the world of Fable 2 is bigger. It's a little tongue-in-cheek; no real significance at all.

As for layering clothes, that would be cool - and practical .

There hasn't been an official release date. But Peter said the work to be done would probably take them through the end of the year
Here's a link with a lot of release date speculation :D

Hi PriestXIII, welcome to the Fable 2 community forums! ;)

I'm just gonna' go ahead and move this thread into the correct forum for you...

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

I never exactly thought of the whole 'layering' concept. I wonder if this could have something to do with changing weather. Not to get off topic as usual though, but you could wear a heavy coat to give you better performance in cold weather, but it would give you disadvantages in warm sunny Oakvale or something.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

i don't think there was a release date yet

No there is not, just a basic 2008 date set.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

Here's a Question...

is the game going to be on rails like the last one, or will I be able to walk 15 steps in a random direction without hitting a wall or a seris of impassable trees?

RPG's (like fable) aren't particularly fun when you're always on the main road heading to the next event.

Shadow of the Collossus (thought, not at all a Pure RPG) seemed to cater to that need for freedom, even if the battles were few and far between.

The original Fable seemed very constraining.

This would be really cool. Weather and area effect on your stats. Cold weather lowers speed possibly. But add a cloak or furs and it fixes that. Really cool idea. I also had an idea from the last fable. They once talked about having your weapon start as basic and the more you use it the more reknowned and strong it gets. But what about alters hidden around albion. maybe elemental and other magical abilities. And say you find certain texts(not spells) and ingrediants to take to the alter. And with these you can take any everyday weapon and place it on the alter recite the text or follow the instructions and bam you have your own specially created individual weapon. Good and evil alters or even at the temples. One example me and a buddy had was for lightning. Take the weapon and items needed go to the temple on a rainy night and after the right things are done. The weapon is struck by lightning and there you go. Instead of a stone placed into the weapon.

ANd with snow or ice. you could freeze it into a chunk of ice and than break the ice. What are some of your ideas with this system of weapon modding.:w00t:

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

That reminds me of the Sword of Leah that was dipped into the Hadshorn and imbued with Druidic magic in The Elfstones of Shanarra

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

exactly the idea I was thinking. I had never read that before, cool read. But yeah the dea is the same. Basic weapon than somehow you do some thing to make it magical. I think that it would be a cool side quest. But you could only do it once. Maybe a sword of lightning and than a rifle of fire. etc. You could only use the alter once. Each with its own story and things to make it happen. Than you could pass it on to your kid in the game when he reaches 20. Or if you became King of Albion you would have a sword that would become legend like Isildor's sword. The whole idea has potential and with what PM was saying about not needing to make alot of bad guys(in some interview I thought he said anyone who kicks your dog would be a bad guy) Same with weapons. Instead of finding a special weapon you could take the weapon you like the look of and make that special. I think it would make your character more yours. Instead of everyone having a character look different but having the same "best" weapon in the game. they would look different and have a different "best' weapon. A side quest that could add alot of depth to the story. Sorry if I rambled.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

No rambling at all - you have made an excellent point and I like those ideas. +rep

poppies are a kind of yellow flower.

peter monlynuex has worked on the story since last christmas i think. not sure when they actually said "hey what about a fable 2?"

unknown wether you can name your dog. i mean could you name the hero?

i dont think you do name your kid. they just respond to you like daddy.dont forgot tradtional your hero never speaks. and if he does only through expression

no word on cloaks i think. would b e cool tho

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

yes you could name your hero in FABLE. You bought a title/name from a vendor. That would be the way to name your dog. When you buy your hero title you could also buy a dog title. Like, your could be. Deathbringer. The dog's could be Drools or even Fang or maybe even lucky.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

I like the whole outer clothes and meaning-to-weather thing. I also like the idea of changing my damn underwear. Why do I have to have a UK flag emblazoned across my [butt] the whole game?

I also especially like the make-basic-weapon-legendary-and-augmented-with-altar-type-thing idea. Presumably that'd also be cheaper and easier to do with my strategy of using only what I pick up off of corpses, chests, and unattended barrels.

And (tangent-time!), to the Terry Brooks fan: GAAAAH! Please don't tell me that you actually liked his Shannara books. Landover was okay, and the weird ones that he apparently is now deciding are aeons-far prequels to Shannara were okay, but Shannara was an extremely, extremely blatant ripoff of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Maybe Brooks didn't do it on purpose, but do it he did.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

Alright everyone. lets all think of a way to augment a weapon, be it by alter or temple or whatever.

Rules are simple. Do not trash talk or dis credit anyone else's. Try not to pick the same augmentation. And you can not just make one by adding stones alone. There has to be a side mission asspect. Read previous posts. And have fun.

I will start with one I said before. The region is the arctic. Blizzard. You find a small cave entrance buried in the snow. Once inside it is a huge room with a alter in the center. Tere are ancient writing carved into the ice walls. You place the bas-tard sword into the alter all the way to the hilt. The writing start to glow one by one. each time you have to press to matching button. Than pace of the button pressing quickens and with a flash of light the color from the writing leaves the walls and jumps into the sword handle. Ice begins to form around the handle. Until it is covered in ice. You must break it with your bare hands to show your strenght. once done you pull your sword out of the ice. It now has a dull blue frost all over it. It doesnt glow because it is frozen by the gods. ice mist flows off of it. and there you have it people.

Re: General questions on Fable 2.

Mind if I add something to yours? Make a penalty if you mess up on the button-mashing. Maybe the weapon gets destroyed, or weakened; or you (or the sword) develop a weakness to the element you were working with or something. The button-mashing could get more and more difficult with each increase in how many augmentations you have, and the penalties concurrently more painful.

I really like that idea, especially since it can be adapted to have different mini-games, and be used for different augmentations.
