Genesis - Beginnings

Before I post this story that I am working on, I would like to point out that while this does not directly involve the world of Fable 2, it would be a great story for how the Archon created the Spire, why he created it, and what he wished. This is a work in progress, and I would love feedback on it and editorial notes, grammar corrections, or suggestions on how to better it. Thank you.

PROLOGUE – THE GOING’S ON IN THE HISTORY OF EARLY ALBION

It is a well known fact that many bloody wars have been waged over the past millennia. The first recorded battle was between the village of Um in the far eastern area of Albion and the village of Emer, situated just north of where the great castle now sits. The battle was supposedly entered into over a dispute of who had ownership over an apple tree between the villages. The village of Emer is recorded to have been triumphant.

Albion’s history is paved with the blood and grit of its inhabitants always vying over something. Approximately five-hundred years ago, an industrious and well-to-do family arrived in the bourgeoning city of Bower. Their know-how and natural instinct for financial deals won them much gold. However, this also created a dispute between some of the upper society within Bower and the, then, Lord Orgrim Rempsfield.

The entire family’s house and holdings were torched, the family was lynched, and all of them died save one. The eldest son was away on business, but upon hearing the news he hurried home and quickly took revenge against the aristocrats responsible. Alone, he charged them all and won. His anger was such, that though he had no formal training, he unleashed massive amounts of Will power against these vile forms of humans whose jealousy had robbed him of everything. And with that, the eldest son took control of Bower; his name was Vladimir Archon.

Over the next fifty years, Vladimir used his charisma, intellect, and uncanny control of the Will to defend the rights of the weak against violent and corrupt officials who sought to control life in Albion. Vladimir had started with a small, but very dedicated, militia of approximately one-hundred fifty men, and by the time Vladimir was crowned King of Albion, he had amassed the largest army known to Albion.

As King, Vladimir constructed roads and schools; he instituted very stringent laws upon the land in order to keep order and balance. He valued the sacred vows of marriage, and promoted the welfare of his citizens by promising a small dowry of his own to any person who married and bore children. As a King, he was the greatest that Albion has ever had.

Five years before his death, King Vladimir was granted the title of Archon, which was bestowed upon him by the Prophet of the Temple of Avoness. The people of Albion had bestowed upon the King and his heirs the greatest privilege; cementing the King’s name forever as a title of honor.

The Archon’s death was swift and brutal. His Chief of Commerce had selected a number of vile assassins and ordered the Archon and his entire family to be murdered. The bandits entered the castle via an escape tunnel for the Archon himself, and slaughtered the night guard, the Archon, and his entire family. The Chief of Commerce took control, but for only a few days.

The citizens of Albion rose up and defeated their new leader. It was thus decided that a royal guard be placed as head of state until someone could prove themselves worthy of the title of Archon. The royal official would bear the title of Prince-Steward, and it was given to the Archon’s most loyal official, Lord Aradof Argus Albatros.

Around that same time, a woman in the village of Eastvale claimed to carry the son of the Archon. She was a barmaid in the village of Eastvale, and claimed that the Archon had ridden through the village, which he had, and taken her as a concubine and impregnated her.

The girl was arrested and taken to prison for treason against the crown and telling false tales to discredit the late Archon; she gave birth to a baby boy while in prison. The boy was sent back to Eastvale to be raised by the girl’s parents. The girl, however, was hanged. The parents named the child Rafel Ergos.
