Gifting via couch co-op? Help needed!

So my father joined my game today and we played co op for a bit to see if he liked it before he really started playing. I sent him some gold and a legendary weapon that I don't use anymore, and then signed off so he could start his own game.

Now he is in Brightwall, making money for the mercenary tattoo and beard, and he still has not received my gifts. When will he be able to get them? I checked my own character and the legendary weapon is no longer there, and the gold is gone. Does he have to keep playing to a certain point before he can accept gifts from other players? Or something?

His XBL expired, and he doesn't plan on renewing it, if that changed anything. Hopefully the game would not require him to be logged into XBL to accept a gift but not to let me give one. I fear losing that weapon forever.

How does he accept the gifts? Or, is there any way to get them back?
 
The gifts aren't there on his shelves in the main room? That is odd... I'm trying to remember when I could receive gifts in the game. I think you can receive them by that point. Can he log in to XBL Silver still? You shouldn't need Gold to get the gifts, but he may need to on the grid.

It's couch co-op so I don't see why he would need his Xbox Live account. He may have to play up to a certain point but I know what you're talking about and I got most of my gifts then so I don't know why it's not showing up. I'd suggest he keeps playing a little while longer and if it doesn't show up... well... I don't think you'd be willing to renew his Xbox Live account just to check. Wish I could be more help but I haven't had the chance to play with anyone yet so I haven't encountered this problem before.
 
No, nothing on the shelves. I'm not too familiar with XBL, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't have Silver either. It does not allow him to connect to xbox live, only to sign up.


@Raven I'll tell him to play past the mercenary quest then.

I do wish it didn't take this long into the game to accept gifts, though. I was rather happy that I got to skip childhood in this installment and get on with the game, but an entire hour into the game and he still does not have access to everything? That's even worse.

Hm... yeah... it might be sometime after that but I'm not exactly sure. Lionhead really did not think this one through.

I'm not sure he needs a Live account, but neither of us is sure he doesn't. It could be local multiplayer handles gifting through the same system as online multiplayer - by passing the gift from one gamertag to the other, over Live. If so, that is just absolutely horrid programming as it shouldn't be necessary for couch co-op, but I'm not ready to rule it out.

If he signs up for a silver account he doesn't have to pay anything, and it woldn't hurt to try.
 
So he doesn't have to pay for silver? In that case I'll just force him to.

She said he had an Xbox Live account that expired so it would automatically revert to a Silver account.
 
That's right, it's free! No reason not to get it. I don't know for sure that's his issue though, but it's a thought.
 
If that's the case I don't see why its still not working. =/ I'll go check again and see.
 
Well, I think the gifts are lost in space somewhere. I tried gifting him again and this gift went through and he was able to collect it.

Where the hell did my legendary weapon go? :( Is there any way to check what gifts you've given?

Well... if he didn't receive it... it's gone. For good.
