Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

I'm having a bit of trouble with something and I'm going to explain to y'all one of my stranger OCDs. I play a lot of RPGs, including the free-to-play MMORPGs like MapleStory, Fiesta, etc. In an RPG you're usually given several choices of classes to pick from. When I first started playing I did what any young boy would do and I picked the warrior class. I soon found this was extremely boring and not nearly as cool as I made it out to be.

So then I switched to mages and for years I played nothing but mages in every RPG. Then later down the road as I became more evil and sadistic, I switched to the darker variations of mages like necromancers and warlocks. At the same time I was finding myself extremely interested in the archer/gunslinger classes. Basically, anything that used a bow or a gun (I'd pick classes with guns over classes with bows) I found to be cool especially considering they were more advantageous than your caster classes.

Now, in case you're wondering, I have this obsessive-compulsive thing where I can't create more than one character ever or it drives me insane. Which means I stick with one class and I pick that one class (or the closest variation to it) in every game I play (obviously games like Halo and Gears of War are excluded). Lately though, I've found no classes but the darker versions of mages and archers/gunslingers interesting.

Sadly, this presents me with a problem. I spent a good chunk of my life being a caster and as such I feel strongly biased towards them. After all, why play a fantasy game when you play a character that you could easily mimic in real life? But at the same time, I've had people tell me that I am a better fit for the gunslinger types and there are times when I believe this.

In fact, I'd say I'm an above average marksman and to reinforce that, I've made many incredible shots that left even me flabbergasted.

What I'm trying to get at is what do you guys think I should play as? Should I play as a gunslinger with no biased feelings towards good or evil? Or should I play the dark and evil caster who wants nothing more than to see others suffer and in pain?

Posts that I deem worthy will receive a nice little reputation boost from me.

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

As I've never played Maple Story i can't be very helpful. sorry.

Well, if you have to go with one and only one it depends, they both have pros and cons.

The Gunslinger would be fun to play as a neutral kind of character, sort of a loner merc I see. You could do what you want, when you want totally uninhibited by morality.

On the other hand, being all super evil and caster-like sounds enjoyable as well, however you'd have to strictly be evil most of the time, and sometimes evil options in games are stupid ones that are outright brutish (I like intelligent villains). Fable is a great example.

In Fable good is Lawful Good and evil is Chaotic Evil. There's no coolness like Neautral or Lawful evil, or neutral or chaotic good... also there's little leeway in the neutral ground.

In the end it comes down to the game itself... if it's a game that gives bonuses based on moral alignment, go evil caster. If moral alignment plays a lesser part then go with Gunslinger as you'll have more options (not combat, out of combat).

Then again I kind of have a thing for loner merc gunslinger type anti-heroes.

The thing is, I don't really care about perks or that sort of thing. You can be evil as an unbiased gunslinger just as much as you can be good as a dark spellcaster, only difference is, is that the latter is more inclined to evil than the former. However, there have been plenty of evil good guys out there... well, hopefully you get what I'm trying to say.

The thing is, I like casting spells as much as I like shooting guns and bows. Not only that but both class types fit my personality rather well (considering it changes every now and then). I've always like dark, morbid things and Halloween has been the one holiday I look forward to every year. Not to mention I'm extremely sadistic and evil but strangely, I'm not evil all the time.

There are times when I feel guilty for my actions and often times I don't feel the need to kill someone, yes, even when they pester me.

I just don't know... I've been contemplating this for quite some time and I've never managed to figure it out. Damn me for being OCD and indecisive.

I was using MapleStory as an example just like I used the vague tersm "gunslinger" and "dark spellcaster" to refer to the two class types I find interesting.

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

Dark mages are cool, but I'd say gunslinger due to personal preferences. They're just cool.

Indeed. I've pretty much decided to go with gunslingers but I will attempt to break my OCD by creating a second character and making it a dark caster.

How do you feel about the name Gravemourn?

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

I'd rather be shot than set ablaze by a wizard. If you really like causing pain that much go for the dark spellcaster. I'm personally the type of guy who tries everything.

Also, Gravemourn sounds sweeeeeet!

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

You'll be the ultimate Hero, who's main characteristic is to have Strength, Skill and Will inside you. Use all of them.

That's what I do

I'm not talking strictly in terms of a Fable character.

Thank you. It's hard coming up with a name I like but when I do, it's usually pretty awesome.

Indeed I do but at the same time, I've always had a thing for guns. So... as I mentioned earlier, I'll try to break my OCD and have two characters.

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

I love multiple character to do the different things I want to so I'm not one to talk.

What game is this might I ask?

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

Any game. There's no set game.

It's more of me trying to figure what class to play in these games. I'm OCD so I can only have one character and one class and I have to play that class in every game I across or at least the closest variation to it (this excludes all non RPG games, obviously).

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

I have OCD too, and I also loved Mages most of the time until I came across gunners and archers. The main difference is that I'm not evil. Well, I'd say try out Archers and gunners, I learned to love them a lot. Although afterwards I didn't go back to mages that often, I found it more simple but more funner to use Archers, thing about mages is that there is too many spells, a gunner and archer focuses more on Accuracy, speed and marksmanship which are really fun to master and manipulate, with the special archer and gunslinger abilities that often times come along.

Edit: nope wait, I remember I used to love creating evil characters.

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

i think you should be a spell caster.
because whenever someone casts a spell over me i feel very lucky. grim, you should really, really, really, really, really be a spell caster so you have the ability to spread joy.

Re: Gunslinger? Dark spellcaster?

Dood, totally go gunslinger. There's nothing that beats the feeling of slingin' ones guns around.

Go into a tavern, 'Oi. Make me a sammich.' 'Who do you think you are, you piece of -' GUNSLING.

Whip your guns out whenever the need arises, but remember, don't shoot your load at women, that's not cool. Only sling with other men. You wanna be professional, remember.
