Halo 3 Scores Highly In Japan

Highly regarded Japanese games magazine Famitsu has just printed its scores for Halo 3 in the latest edition. They had 4 reviewing editors play it and rate it and it scored the following.

  1. 10/10
  2. 9/10
  3. 9/10
  4. 9/10

As CVG put it thats quite good seem as though Japan hate First Person Shooters and everything to do with Xbox .

I was quite surprised myself as anything to do with Xbox just doesnt sell there and isnt really received very well unless its a traditional style Japanese RPG or game created by Japanese studio.

I wonder how they rated BioShock?
I hope it translates into Xbox 360 Sales

I think it got rated quite high, however although both ratings are very high it doesnt change the Japanese views on FPS games and their dislike for them.

I wouldnt have from a Japanese mag as like it stated the 360 is the least popular console there, first person shooters the least favourite genre & Microsoft the least favourite company.

Cool, good job Halo 3! ;)

I wouldn't give Halo 3 a 10...but then again, I haven't played it! So when I do, i'll officially rate it.

To be honest, 10 out of 10... I don't think any man can create such a thing. Nothing could be perfect in every possible way....

But anyway - go Halo. Nicely done.

10/10 thy name is Bioshock :frenchy:

Bioshock got a 10/10 in my book ;) And, hopefully Halo 3 will be about there, too.

Re: Halo 3 Scores Highly In Japan

Nice to see an FPS/TPS on a Microsoft console receive good rep, and in Japan too. I'm not an FPS fan, so I probably wouldn't go as far as a 10/10 for one, but to see it coming from a Japanese critic..well, I guess that's something good for Microsoft to smile about.

10/10 doesn't mean perfect just that it successfully got 10 out of 10.
Perfection is an opinion anyway.

Very good point as even the games that get 10/10 have their flaws, just like most things.

Sorry, but I disagree. A 10/10 game must be perfect because there were no flaws to subtract the score. At all. Ergo, perfect. Which, as I said, would be human impossible.

It might have no flaws though from a technical standpoint then it all comes down to a matter of personal opinion. One reviewer might give something 10/10 for doing everything it said it would and succeeding in everything its tried to do and basically ticking all the boxes. However another might give it a 6/10 because they personally disliked some systems and such in it. I would personally never use the score 10/10 but say something like 9.8/10 as theres always something to put it down on.

Which brings us around to my statement that a perfect, 10/10 game, will probably see the light of day. Sure, some might give it a 10/10, but never are all reviewers going to agree that this game is 'it', the perfect game.

No game will ever have the title of 'The perfect game' either as like Todd says its mainly down to a matter of opinion and taste. Like you said some may love everything about it and in their eyes its everything they ever wanted from the title and give it a 10/10 as for them there isnt a thing wrong with it. However someone else may hate lots about it and it wont be to their style.

The "perfect game" is extremely ahead of our time, since it would need to include EVERYTHING humanly possible, no flaws in the eyes of anyone..

Not to say it's impossible, but just there's no possibly way to pull that off in today's current technology or general knowledge. Maybe a thousand years from now, or something.

Then why bother having a ten point scale. Why not just go to 11 :shifty::P
It's more of a comparative tool then a absolute judgment. I can see giving it a 9.x if you want to leave room in case another game comes along and you like it better so you give it a 9.x +.1 but three years later the same game with the same quality might only get an 8 or 7.625 +- .05 or something like that.

Anyway I think I've sufficiently over analyzed this to the point of burgeoning nausea. I give Halo 3 a ?/(?+1) ;)
