Help! I'm new to Fable II!

Howdy. I've just got Fable II after playing it at my friend's house and have a few simple questions for you:

1. Is it essential that you go around opening chests and finding silver keys during the main storyline? Is it merely to gain more money or are there huge benefits to be wrought by finding treasure throughout the main game (i.e. rare items)?
2. Should I be good/evil and pure/corrupt? I like the look of pure evil characters but apparently good pure characters make the most money due to the economy system?

It's not essential, though it is recommended. If you see a key, dig spot, dive spot, or chest, go check it out. It may be something useful, but if not, it's something to sell to help you buy more useful things.

Rent and shop prices have nothing to do with being good or evil. They only affect your purity. You'll make just about the same amount of money either way though. Raising prices will make you more corrupt, but since prices are raised, you receive more income. Lowering prices will make you more pure, and with the lower prices, economies get better, so you receive more income. It balances out.

When it comes to being good, evil, pure, corrupt, or neutral, one (or a combination of two of them) isn't necessarily best. Each will have its benefits and downfalls. Just play through the game, make whatever choices you like, and see where it takes you.
