Help please im at wits end on this.

Help please im at wits end on this.

Every time i load fable it gets to the main menu and either freezes at the left click to continue screen or it goes completely black, and no matter how long i wait it stays like that, i am running XP not Vista. and i have updated my graphics drivers, also my computer runs Call of Duty 4 and Crysis, so i know its not hardware, and on the few occasions i get the game to run it will crash as i move between towns, playing unmoded on clean instal. any ideas on what it could be?

i have no idea m8 but the exact same is happening with me :( i'm on vista though lol. dunno if it helps but might narrow down the problem for anyone else lol. have you modded the game before? even if u modded it then uninstalled then re-installed again?

So you dont get any errors such as runtime errors or anything? It just freezes up and doesnt respond?

yeah exactly. it either sticks on the menu when u load game, or the screen goes black but the cursor is still there. i have to ctrl, alt + delete to exit the game :(

It just gets to the main menu and the screen goes black but the music plays, or the screen freezes on an image but the music keeps playing i can alt tab out of the game, but it dosent help, and no i have never moded the game, and also no errors i just have to alt F4 out of the game.

Have you actually tried a complete fresh install and removed Fable files from the registry?

Well, i just tried it and it didnt help at all, still doing the same thing. Also i can rule out the install because it works on my sisters laptop just fine.

Just tried that, its still doing the same thing, going to black screen from time to time the menu is being laggy and freezeing up sometimes, and whenever i try to load or start a game it crashes.

howabout doing a system restore? if you have a previous date when fable was working just fine you could restore your system to that point in time and see if that helps

well its runing a little, now, but if i can get past childhood, ill be ok i think, its laggy, but im not sure, and as for a restore well it hasnt worked since the day i instaled it


Edit.

The game crashed and now im just getting black screen agian.

Must be some sort of Driver conflict with Fable somewhere or something, tried changing the resolution or display settings of Fable in game?

i had a similar problem. try changing the compatibility. to do it. right click on Fable and click on properties. then go to Compatibility. there will be a small blank box next to a larger box that says Windows 95. check the box and u can change it to windows 2000 and it worked for me.

Ok, and as for the resolution i tried running it at 640x800 and it ran for a little while longer than normal but alas it still crashed, ill try computability mode though.

Edit:
Tried both, booting the game in 640x800 and using computability mode together and separately, still doing the same thing.

Also as of right now i cant even get to the left click to continue screen, it just blacks out. Plays the intro videos then just gets to the menus and freezes or blacks out.

Anywhere you can tweak the refresh rate?

it should work...if it dont..then idk, maybe ur disc is messed up

He said it worked on his sisters laptop fine though so disc sounds fine.

oh...idk...maybe something with ur firewall. it might be blocking Fable

I don't think it would start at all if it was the firewall... :hmm:
