Hero Talk

Ok, maybe its been on a recent forum or not but I just joined this website.
I was wondering, does anyone know if your character can talk in Fable 2? In the last Fable your character never talked, made a face once in awhile or just noded. Is it going to be the same in Fable 2?
Either way i'm still getting Fable 2 it would just be much better if your character could actually say somthing. I just read somthing that it will be like GTA IV where there will be idle chat while your going to a quest. In GTA IV Niko talks back and answeres questions and somtimes starts the conversation.
The entire time I played Fable 1 I just thought to myself " Maybe hes just mute because of what happened in the begining" I can't really get myself into the game if my character won't even say "Hello" to his wife. :(

Re: Hero Talk

Aside from possibly a few grunts and catch phrases, there will be no solid voice acting. The whole purpose of the hero's silence was so to connect you better to the character. Full speech and seperate dialouge are thought to break the roleplaying bond between character and player as it makes it feel more as if you're merely guiding him rather than actually being him. It's a psycho-babble roleplay thing that PM likes to work with. I'm sure someone can describe it to you better. But to answer you're question, I'll give a strong assumption of...no, he will not actually talk.

Re: Hero Talk

however there will be buttons you can press to make him/her say certain things. so there might be some greetings, farewells, and other parts of speech there

Re: Hero Talk

in the first fable the "apologize" expression made him say i'm sorry

Re: Hero Talk

As Seigrfried and Jimbo said he will be able to emote but not fully converse with NPCs.
In Fable /TLC he could say
  • "****"
  • "Come oon!"
  • "Sorry"
  • "Ha Ha"
  • "Wait"
  • "Follow"
  • "Yes!"
  • "Heey"
  • "Thanks"

Re: Hero Talk

Yes yes I know, I played Fable / Fable : Lost Chapters and completed it 100%! I think...well mostly. Near 100%...I did good. Very good. Anyway. But, you see when your the 'Hero' of the people or whatever and you don't even know your own name and all you can come up with is HAHA when you just saved their entire kingdom and all of the people inside of it along with there babies you feel kind of dumb. Bah, maybe I'm just over thinking it but I still think he needs to be able to actually talk in important plot points or just the idle chat areas.=]

Re: Hero Talk

Since the character is really you, your character will only say a few words or phrases, I deem. While it isn't the biggest feature now, the expressions system will still be used. That's the way to communicate in Fable 1, at least.

Re: Hero Talk

Again, it's believed that providing the character with a personal name, an actuall voice with dialogue, and unchartered actions breaks the imaginary bond with the player and hero, and for that you feel a lot less like the hero himself.

Personally, when I beat Dragon Jack and finished the story I jumped up, screamed at the top of my lungs "Hell Yeah, Mutha F***er!", and spiked the controller. Then while the ending credits rolled on I went to Wal-mart and bought a new controller.

You can do the same, if you want, except the controller part. I get what yer sayin' though. It is a little odd that your character had no real personality. Even without a voice, it could have been done so that there were reactions to some events or situations. For example, after you beat Dragon Jack and once the credits rolled past you could have seen your hero do some crazy victory dance. But then just imagine it like Legend of Zelda where as Link never really said anything, just grunted alot, and most people prefer that he has no dialogue.

Of course there is nothing in common with those games really, but I figured it would help make my point. It works for some games, but sometimes it's better the other way.

Re: Hero Talk

i dont really know much about ths sort of thing, but would it not have been possible for them to utilise the headset in some way for that purpose?
Or at least give conversation topic options, so it almost feels like you may have said something...

that would make the game the best game ever but i am pretty sure it is almost impossible because you would probably have to match words perfectly but maybe in the future

i was going to say they should have something like in mass effect but honestly it was good in mass effect but i dont think it would be good in fable 2

Re: Hero Talk

I just hope he can talk more than Fable 1, I remember in Fable 1 when I was in the arena, I was at the last guy and I had just defeated him and I hit the button that makes you do the "Haha" heroic stance or somthing and it went over the entire crowd and you could only here him going Ha Ha all heroicly and it sounded horrible. Happened every single time I used one of those it just felt like a very awkward moment after I did it.
I still think he should talk around important plot points, and even if my character doesn't talk at all It would be nice if they gave me a reason, like said "in a horrible explosion you lost your voice" or your character just likes to be very quiet. I don't know.
They should make it like Oblivion, where your guy doesn't talk, you just choose the text and the NPC responds. "How are you?" "1.Fine. 2. What do you want? 3. Goodbye. " you know?

that would take way to long to change along this line of the game

Re: Hero Talk

I'm not sure, but it seems there are more places for talking, so maybe he will say a little more. Controller pad seems to have more functions than in TLC. Has anyone else noticed that?

Re: Hero Talk

Yeah, but I wouldn't want him saying anything that I myself wouldn't say. I once thought of the idea that there were responsive emotions when one talked to you. These would only appear when someone said something specificly to you. You could respond happy, angry, sad, or whatever other emotion depending on what was said to you. I'm wasn't talking about anything deep, just a better way to respond rather than a sneer or sexy arm pump.

It contradicts what I said previously, I know, but that was way back when and ideas change. So no giving me any lip!

LOL, OK, no lip. I guess with the choices, we make between good and evil, that might be hard to do. Instant statements, could lead into the wrong conversation, for morphng. Do you know what I mean?

Re: Hero Talk

I was talking about when you are wandering around town and someone talks to you. They say something to you, and you can respond to them. It was just something I thought up for kicks. I don't know about story-based though. You're right as one mistake could lead you off course, but hey, that is how Molynuex wants it. He's said before that he wants it so you can't just change your mind at an instant. If you were to make a choice, and later felt that you made a mistake, there wasn't an easy way to turn back. He wanted you to live with your decision.

I seem to have wandered off a bit there. But back to what I was saying; Used for recreational purposes, not for the actual story. For the story it would need to be more advanced, more deep, more to it than what I had planned.

Re: Hero Talk

That would be cool, if it was seperate, from the alignment. I understand what you're saying, and it would be cool, to make replies, especially when your dog gets kicked.:P Don't flirt with married people.

Re: Hero Talk

how about the hero saying "ahh bugger" when he walks into a wall drunk?

Re: Hero Talk

Skorm's Boss has it, there you go. Somthing like that, you still have your little buttons to press to make him say somthing, you still have no real talking. But if he could say somthing depending on what hes doing as in running into a wall when drunk or getting hit by an enemy saying "back off!" or somthing. I guess I would be happy with that. Making the character more alive but no actual talking.
Like GTA IV! Where Niko will say "get out of the car" when your car jacking somone or saying "Sorry" when he bumps into someone. Of course what you say goes with your alignment (how ever its spelled) "sorry" - good "out of my way" - evil .
And yes I do understand that it is to far into the game to go back and change all that but you never know. :P
