Hero voice morphing?

With the first clear video showing some of the hero's dialogue being released, I was wondering, with the emphasis on morphing almost everything in the game, if the hero's voice would change with him? I mean in the video his voice his quite high and cheerful I suppose, but it would be weird if it stayed like that for say, an extremely evil character. Obviously it would be impossible for the voice actor to re-record every line in a slightly more evil manner every time but, maybe it could lower and become a bit crackly as you grow more evil? Dunno how being good would morph it though... and obviously the same applies to the heroine here.

Who know's it's, like 26 days left till we can find out :D

Re: Hero voice morphing?

They can easily change the sounds of the lines with audio editing programs

I'll go ahead and say that this will never happen. Ever. Not in my Fable franchise.

Yeah, that's probably right

Re: Hero voice morphing?

Even if it were feasible, I wouldn't want it to happen. It would ruin the realism.

Re: Hero voice morphing?

whats to say a downright despicable person can't have a high pitched happy voice? or a holier than thou saint of a hero cant have a deep gruff stern voice?
So id say nope voice morphing is unlikely to happen.

Nice idea though.

Re: Hero voice morphing?

Indeed, I agree with Mlaar and Stranger. It's most likely not happening, but good idea nonetheless. Should it be the case that it does feature in Fable 3, it'd be only a good thing.

As long as I don't walk around with an extremely posh voice, I'm fine with it. And I believe your hero's voice does depend on whether you're a noble man, or the contrary. But that's just my guess.

Re: Hero voice morphing?

How would it be a good thing? As soon as I decide to murder everone in the Bowerstone Market, my voice suddenly changes to a cliche evil, but when I donate enough to get my good points back, I get the voice of Silverbolt?

Re: Hero voice morphing?

All good points here... I was just thinking with the emphasis on everyone's hero being unique that it'd be strange for them to all have the exact same voice, but probably more realistic than trying to implement more than, say, pitch, since that's the only real thing that'd be easily changeable, not like accent or gruff-ness on the voice. But it is true that evil guys can have high voices and good ones can have low voices, looking at people like Jack of Blades, Dash, Garth...

If it did change, I would expect it to only change when you're at the extremes of your alignments. (As evil/corrupt as you can get, etc, etc,) That way you don't have a voice change every 20 minutes.

Of courser almost everything Lionhead does is criticized these days because Molyneux likes to exaggerate and talks about features they couldn't implement at the time.

Re: Hero voice morphing?

what!!!!!!????!! Are you guys dumb? When have you seen a demon with a sqeeky voice. I agree it shouldnt change on the fly but it should be your choice!!! Maybe drink a potion to change how you liike!!!!!

Re: Hero voice morphing?

I really don't think it'd be too difficult to morph the voice between one or two modifiers (good and evil). The technology is certainly out there TODAY and it'd just be a question of applying some pitch, depth, and background changes.

That being said, I doubt they'll implement it into Fable III. It would be neat but it's unlikely.

On a related note, I believe it's only a matter of time before they start using text-to-speech in video games. That technology has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years, could cheaply replace expensive voice actors, can sound realistic, and can be modified to sound like anything. Anyways, that's my related prediction.

Re: Hero voice morphing?

This game is already fit to bursting with cool surprises and fun.

Leave the voice morphing for Fable IV, or there wont be any new features to add.

Evil with squeaky voice:

Good with deep voice:

Please, think about what you say before you go calling everyone dumb

Re: Hero voice morphing?

They gave Jack a deep voice in TLC which sounded awesome AND evil.

The GuildMaster has quite a high voice, but it's weathered. You can hear his age through it. But it definitely isn't deep.

In your own words:

"Please, think about what you say"

Jack's TLC voice sounded obvious and cliche. In the original, when I first met Jack, I thought "Hmm, this guy seems pretty interesting, I wonder what he's all about." When I met him in TLC (despite knowing he was already the bad guy), I thought, "Ok, so we know who the bad guy is."

Well...if you're evil then you're able to grow wings out of your back and grow horns from your head (but I don't really know if that's still in the game). I think its slightly more likely than someone's voice will change from doing "bad things" (smoking and the like...I guess?) than developing horns or wings.

Also, I think it would make sense, not for evil people to have a different voice, but different dialogue. For exampills:

Person: Oh my gosh! Your best friend has been axe-murdered in the head!
Good guy: OH NOES I WAS SO CLOSED TO HIM!
Bad Guy: Who gives a poot.

I want wondering when someone was going to have a go at me for the realism thing

I'll be honest: I never liked the morphing. It's always been cliche and annoying. I want my evil character to be like Reaver: Charming, charismatic, corrupt... and another c word... I dont want him to be the demonic spawn of satan who you can spot a mile away because he's the one burning villages and eating babies. There's a thing called SUBTLETY, Lionhead.

It should be the other way around. The dialogue you choose should define whether you are good or evil, like in Mass Effect.

Agreed. I don't want to look like a demon when I'm supposed to be a king or an evil hero.

Obviously you'd still have choices. I just meant your alignment would reflect your tone. An a-hole accepting a quest to rescue a child wouldn't have the same transcript as Pippy Longstockings accepting it.
