So does anyone play chess? Oddly curious cuz I really love the game. The battle of wits, the planning ahead, the improv moves when needed.

Also I love the Knights. I do really mean things with them. Like stick them in the center of the board protecting eachother so if you take one the other takes the attacking piece and they control a large portion of the battlefield.

Anyone's thoughts on a game long considered classic and timeless?

Never got into it. My horrible ADD made learning extremely difficult because I can only focus on 2-3 pieces at once.

Backgammon, though; now THAT'S my game. My gramps taught me how to play when I was 10 and now I can wipe the floor with any old geezer who thinks that a youngin' doesn't know how to play. Come at me bro.
 
It's a very intriguing game to play. I play a lot of chess with my 3DS with my best friend, he uses his 3DS. The game we use we downloaded off of the Nintendo E-Shop and it's very limited and quite flawed but it's still fun.

Just funny sometimes. There are times he checkmates me in the beginning of the game (I'm not that cool sadly), and his skills exceeded mine quickly but I enjoy a challenge. Losing just means I have more to improve on.
 
Try to get a game in at least once a day, if there's time and if Jake doesn't steal the pieces. Bought a hand-crafted marble and fossil set from Chess Baron (coz I broke the other one by standing on it) and it's beautiful...but heavy and stupid expensive.

I'm not smart enough for real chess playing where you think properly and stuff, but I like to play it for relaxation purposes and to make me feel like I'm at least a little bit ok in the brain department.

Anyway, I know how to play chess, but I rarely play it. And when I do, I lose. I'll stick to achieving world domination. Obama to E2.
 
I play chess like a tennis player; I grunt whenever I make a move. Chess is a very intense sport after all.

Love chess, one of the rare things that manages to get my mind in a competitive state without having to get up or grab a controller. Haven't properly played it with someone in a long time, but I would normally pull up a chair and have a few rounds with my old man. Maybe I'll dust off the old board and invite him over this weekend for a few games.

Originally Queens weren't as powerful, but the variant known as 'the mad Queen' variant became more popular and is the most commonly used chess variant today.

I love Chess. I play with another boy at my school every lunchtime. He's a lot smarter than me, and always wins, but I am getting better after every game.
 
I also find it kinda sexist that the Queen is the most powerful piece, whilst the King is the weakest of the lot and needs constant protection.

I bet it was invented by a medieval hippie. A female medieval hippie.

Get married. Then you can totally play up the whole "I'm so weak" thing - just think of it as having your own personal slave who has to be at your beck and call in case you hurt yourself reaching into the fridge...

Love it. Used to play it with my aunt when I happened to visit her. Since she moved not so much anymore.

It depends, for example in Estonian, the Queen is called the Flag instead.

Checkers is full of lamesauce. I can't stand it either... Hey Scotty, we should play chess over the net sometime. I love new opponents.
