How to do/find side quests?

I've had the game since the 21st but I still haven't seen any sidequests. I'm at the point in the game where you have to go to Oakvale and talk to the Abbott but I don't want to get too far in the main quest. Do I start getting sidequests after i talk to the Abbot? Have I missed something? Someone Help!!!!!

This time the sidequests seem to be much more... integrated, I guess is the word. Like when you're going through a cave you might come across a guy who needs help finding his kid; or... well, actually, that's the only one I've see. You also get them by buying houses. But look for the exclamation points over people's heads for the important stuff.

But I'm not any further into the game than you are, so I don't really know that much more. I need to play more.

Most of the quest are at the guild. If you help the trader through the woods to the farmers house a few times, there is a quest connected to the farmer. You can get some gems from the trader if you don't let him get hurt. I hope that helps.

So far every possible sidequest has shown up on my Quests list along with the main quest. You won't have any that early in the main quest. They become available as you progress the main story.
