How to unequip something?

I am playing through as my first fable mage ever. I managed to avoid a gun by equiping a pistol, how can i unequip a sword so i can have no visible weapons, if it is even possible...
i have tried selling them..i can't sell what i have equipped
i have gone and selected them from the menu and could not find any button that would allow me to do so.

you cant. remember once you got your stuff from the chest? It was automaticly used. So you cant not use a weapon.
