Not sure if you are aware, but this week its Pride in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. And I, for one, can't stand it. You have to hear about it constantly on the telly and you it is all over the news magazines. The rainbow flag waves proudly over places of business and companies are tripping and falling over each-other trying to be more diverse than the next, like little rainbow flags on city busses (upside down though they may be).
You know why I can't stand it? Because of my two dear friends Political Correctness and Hypocrisy! Once this week is over nothing will have changed for homosexual men and women in Sweden. The phony smiles and fake helloes will fade away and it is business as usual.
I refuse to acknowledge Pride for the same reason I refuse International Women's Day; I truly believe we're all equal and by setting aside special days or weeks for groups of people you're just acknoledging that the rest of the time we're not equal.
