Don't get me wrong, I totally dig what you're saying. Very interesting to think about really. I liked 8 on the first playthrough decently enough but have since disliked it above all the rest, I just simply don't like the characters, the story very much, or really anything about it--except the idea behind SeeD is really friggin sweet I must say. Oh, well I did like Squall, he's a cool character. But it just doesn't do it for me, easily the worst FF since #6 IMO (btw I loved 6).
As for 9, I understand why you're not big on it. The reason that I loved it is that I do actually like the generic royalty type of world and story, and I thought 9 was one of the best for that. I loved the world itself--colorful and beatiful. Loved the characters. I loved the weapon-ability system, liked it second best next to materia.
10 was good, but Tidus is a wuss and he really put a damper on the whole game for me. Plus the story kinda sucked IMO although very metaphorical and interesting with a lot of social undercurrents. Auron is badass
and Rikku is GOOOOORGEOUS MAN!!!! Oh...don't even get me started on Rikku LOL! (I know I'm a nerd..I like videogame girls..always have...can't help it :wub
12 is a whole different ballfield. I definitely see why a lot of people are turned off to it and as such doubt that XIII will be good. When I first got 12 I hated it, put it down after 6 hours if that. A year later or so I tried it again and fell absolutely in love. It's one of my favorites by far. I think Vaan is almost as big a puss as Tidus but I loved the game so much that I could look over it lol. I liked the story, all the characters but Vaan and Penelo, Ashe sure is a looker :wub:, lol. I loved the gameplay and the world itself. I LOOOOVED the hunts! I spent over 70 hours in all on 12. There were a lot of things I didn't like though, but I think 13 will improve on them. I also like how 13 will be fully real time, and the idea behind the whole game is simply wonderful. So I've got way more than hope for 13.
Man...I could discuss the FF series all day. I love them so so much.
