Well, I just bought some Sennheiser HD201s (cheap but effective) and they sound awesome, but depending on how I sit, the sound becomes very static and generally crappy.

Now, I don't know if it's because of my audiojack or my laptop generally, cause it ends up happening to all of my headphones, or if I just got a pair of faulty headphones or something.

Any help would be much appreciated

I'm not an audiophile. However if you get the same problem with every headphone you use then it's your laptop's audio port problem. Have you tried the same headphones on another computer?

I'm gonna try that now, if there is a problem with my laptop is there any way I can fix it without using my insurance do you know?

EDIT: I've just tried them on my TV (headphones port), and it sounds perfect when I put the headphones in about half way, but there's no sound if I put them in full way.

I'm pretty sure it's my laptop though. Hmm.

Okay, there's a slightly chance it's the audio driver. Have you had other audio problems in the past?
Yeah after a while all of my headphones start doing the same thing, but can't be fixed. It's why I got my current ones :P

If it only happens depending on which way you're leaning, with every pair of headphones, it's almost definitely the plug on your laptop. I don't know if you can replace just the plug or whatever, but that's where my money is going.

With regards to your problem with the good sound halfway into the tv: is the jack on your headphones a TRS or TRRS?

replacing a jack is no small matter, you'll have to dig into your insurance over it absolutely.
i'd start hoping that they can fix it without replacing the laptop. my friends ipod had a faulty jack from her not taking out the headphone plug while she carried it around. eventually all the stress put on the headphones knocked the jack loose and they couldn't replace it without getting a new ipod...but then again ipods are designed to be broken once opened, so they may be able to replace just the jack... it'll definitely put your warranty to use though, definitely.

The TV Jack is probably made for a TRRS input then, so the contacts in the plug dont line up properly to the contacts of a TRS jack.

Or it could be poltergeists.

When I pinch the my laptop (over and under the audio port) the headphones work, so I'm guessing its out of place so the contacts don't meet
