I have always wanted to be a PC gamer, but lack of money for tech upgrades and with the majority of the games I want being either only on consoles or primarily for consoles (Meaning bad PC ports) I just haven't done it, so I still play Starcraft 1 like a sucker, a retro-sucker.

I have no room for an Uber-Game Room, but my cousin Stephen had an awesome living room setup (This was back in 06 or 07 right after he came back from Boot Camp he decided to make a Game Pad.) he has always been a techie, and he works for a PC repair place, so he has some tools, a couple PC Towers lined up, a MAC n the corner for working, a black leather couch, mini-fridge with Mtn. Dew stacked to the brim, 38 inch Plasma Screen with xbox, 360, PS2 and a Gamecube underneath it, he had a sound system with sub-wohfers(?), three speakers on the way right behind/above the couch, two on each wall, and four on the TV stand.

I'm quite jeolous. :) PC games are O.K, i find that they do, as you say have very bad ports most of the time.. although some of the benefits include the command console.. in Fable TLC there is a massive amount of community created mods and some tricks so i guess thats a benefit. You can become a balverine(?)a minion, ect. Some swords and most of the content is free. One of the only weird little problems is people often get very mad at you during "live" sessions...you'll always get a couple weird guys who think everyone knows everything about computers (NOT me!)
Otherwise, a controller based console setup is always the way to go.

55 inch LCD TV with HD and surround sound set up.
enough couches to seat 6-8.
PS3, 360, PS2, GameCube, and N64 all wired up to it. gas fireplace w/ remote, and heavy eskimo-style blankets (house isn't always heated). wireless adapter on the 360, and a fridge full of liquor, (not light) beer, and mountain dew. cabinet full of shot glasses. and a cupboard full of chips+whatnot.

also an ipod player.

estimated price?
2-3 thousand dollars.

I've already got a sweet set up in my living room, advantages of having your own house. Got a 42" HDTV 1080p. My ps3 and Xbox 360. And I'm almost done building my computer. Should be done in January.

Side comment:

PC hardware out performs anything consoles have and could have, from hardware components to accessories, you just need to know what you need; However, it comes at a price. I still like consoles for games like fable or devil may cry, but first person shooters and mmorpgs, there's nothing like a PC.

Plus you could play for free online (most games). Don't need no crappy gold membership to play with others. Could browse the net. Photo edit. Whatever you want to do, and majority is free, so... in the end, you waste more money buying a console like an Xbox then having to subscribe monthly or annually for membership over the years to a gaming console that's limited on features.

Aha! nice setup, a couple years ago i bought a rather large tv with cinema dimensions, those were the days when everything on xbox looked like **** if it wasnt 4*4...
Although i have to agree with you on FPS games, Left 4 Dead is wayyy better on a P.C... but once again thats also because of the command console. I'm a born "cheater" in the eyes of many gamers! that includes xbox. Command Console ftw....
