Infinity Ward Work Through Night To Fix PS3 Call Of Duty 4 Issues

Infinity Ward have been hard at work since the demand for Call Of Duty 4 on the PS3 crippled the online servers after being slammed by a huge rush of players. The high traffic on the online gameplay servers had caused irate gamers to experience a list of connection errors over the weekend on the PS3 version.

The server team has been working on this all weekend, and will be working through the night" to fix the online functionality of the game.

The problem is not with the game code but just the servers, and so a patch won't be necessary.

The only real issue is that the servers we're getting hit really hard, especially with the launch in Europe doubling that traffic, just something that requires optimising on the server side and we've been working with the PSN COD4 Server team from the moment it started having issues assisting any way we can to help them get them up to speed faster.

There was an update this morning on the situation that said the following:

During this upgrade you may still receive the 'Downloading Game Settings' message, but it is temporary, in the sense of just let it download and you will eventually drop into a lobby and play just fine. Remember, this is just short term, eventually once everything is upgraded you won't be receiving Downloading Game Settings at all. However, if you do, just wait it out and you will be dropped into a lobby.

Update on this by Infinity Ward's community relations manager, Robert Bowling:

You should no longer be receiving this error message or any other issues related to the firmware update in the game.

Thank you to everyone for giving us the heads up on this so we could start tracking down answers, and getting it resolved and please let us know if you have any additional issues.
