Just learned something very important

When you have two "local drives"(C: and D:) Files can sometimes be corrupted if you copy them from one to the other and than copy again... several things on my computer started to screw up, and it was because of one part a file was corrupted...

Re: Just learned something very important

That's almost as important as the time I learned not to try and stop chainsaws with my genitals.

Is this the same when it's a partition, rather than two actual drives?

Re: Just learned something very important

Hard disks need regular error checks and maintenance. Defragment them once in a while. If you torrent a lot, then you should do the check and disk defragmentation more often.
Splitting very large files into smaller segments is a good idea for archival purposes. It simply eases the pain of copying huge files between drives. You can always re-combine them when necessary.
I still use both removable disks and external drives for my data backups. I wouldn't trust my hard drives for storage. Too risky!

You may find the following links useful:

If chkdsk failed, try program like TestDisk to fix the boot sector or the MFT.

Or use GetDataBack to try recovering your files.

Ah, well, I don't have money, I'm coming to you here via a 10 year old computer that has been upgraded 4 times... This all making it super slow... I have 216 (some measurement) of RAM and according to some computer guy I was talking to the lowest you can go is 4 (something...)...

Your money were wasted on those "upgrades".

Get to know your 10 year old computer better.

Re: Just learned something very important

Listen, All I know is that this is my computer nobody elses, and Just because I forgot the term byte, doesn't make me an idiot... Though that is pretty bad...

I didn't spend any money on the upgrades, they were free. And I'd rather have the XP I have then the 95 I could have had...

Fair enough. But you did sound like you wanted to play dumb all of a sudden. It's quite convincing cos I instantly felt like an idiot after reading your reply.

Software upgrades I see. Still they slow your computer down right? Are these "free upgrades" really necessary? That's why I suggested you to get to know your machine better.

Sure, go ahead if that's your way. After the dinner and the movie, are you planning to sleep with it too?
...
Never mind, I don't wanna know. Do whatever you like man. Nobody's stopping you. Cheerio.

Re: Just learned something very important

This thread is now about OS-tans.
There's no picture of Win 95. I like her more than 98. Feel sorry for her.

Re: Just learned something very important

How hella weird is it that i've spent every waking moment of today watching Chobits and you post a Chobits AMV out of the blue.

Re: Just learned something very important

I agree. That was cool, thank you.
