Knothole Island Reviewed... kind of, also some new gameplay videos

All told, I enjoyed the Knothole Island download, but I'm not sure if the price will sit well with everyone. There is a lot here when you consider the three quests, three new achievements, and dozens of new items to purchase and find. I got a kick out of some of the wackier things the new items allow you to do to your character, such as creating a short, obese greaser with a leather jacket. The lighthearted approach to role-playing that Lionhead has created hasn't lost a step with this download.

The main quest line will take you a couple hours to complete with more or less mileage depending on your pace and the rest of the things to do on the island could add a couple more. However, this download doesn't have the sort of replayability that multiplayer map packs for shooters enjoy. Once you finish the quests, snag all of the new items, and buy up the six new buildings, you likely won't be coming back to Knothole.

and here are the videos

Three quests only?

That's just incorrect. The amount of playtime required to complete the main quest is far less then a couple hours. Go to a spot, dig up a key, go to a shrine, complete the shrine, return to town. Repeat x3. How exactly does one change their pace while doing that, walk every where instead of run? Stop and perform the chicken dance every time you kill an enemy?

In between each of the 3 quests, I stopped to explore the entire island and get all the chests, dig spots, and dive spots that are only available during that particular climate (a nice touch, reminds me of Zelda games). I explored all the new buildings and bought the few available ones, then I checked out all the new augments, potions, and other items I had collected (there's some really nice new augments btw).

After spending two hours doing all of this (that's right, doing all that is what takes a couple hours), the only thing I have left to do is go shopping for all the items for the Box of Secrets. I don't know about other people, but I don't consider going shopping for items that already existed in shops that already existed on the mainland that already existed to be time spent on new content.

I love it, I don't really mind about the story because I wanted that out the way :)

I loved it, and I love the submarine.^_^

Re: Knothole Island Reviewed... kind of, also some new gameplay videos

I thought it was okay. However it is basically the same thing x3 as someone else said.

Good items and stuff though.

I thought the items were very good.

Re: Knothole Island Reviewed... kind of, also some new gameplay videos

I played it for a couple of hours and only finished the finished the first part of the DLC. I got the ice key and finished the first shrine. I've spent most of my time exploring and talking to people. I also gave some stuff away to a few online friends.

Anyone want to join me in a bottle of The Gangreen Fairy

I know, Gangreen Fairy, sounds so funny. Also shrinking my hero, was really funny. Couldn't stop laughing. I was actually looking up to some of the npc's.
:D

I have yet to blow my money on it. I probably will eventually, but it doesn't seem to be the most pressing purchase ever.

It sounds cool, for all that it's short, but [shrugs.]

Re: Knothole Island Reviewed... kind of, also some new gameplay videos

Actually I didn't find it short. I would fix the weather, first quest, and go back to Bowerstone and do a couple of slave rescues, or tend to the family, then I would go back, do the second quest, buy up property. Find the new colors, and stuff you can buy. Then go back to Bowerstone, do some trading there, and then back to the Island, and do the third quest, Make the final decision, check out every part of the island to get the books. Found all 10. Open Mystery boxes, and got the goodies, from them. I really love the DLC. If done right it could take 3 hours to do everything, if you stayed on the Island. Also talked to the new NPC's from there. They really look funny.:P
Woo, this is getting to long, sorry.

Re: Knothole Island Reviewed... kind of, also some new gameplay videos

i reckon it took me about 5 hrs to do the whole thing, but for 2 of them, i was just going in and out of fairfax garden waiting for a clothing trader with regal purple dye to show up. i was also very maticulous in exploring the island looking for the books and making sure i found everything.
