Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2: The Sacrifice Preview
It’s no surprise that Left 4 Dead and its sequel have remained popular. Valve’s thrilling first person shooters are both thoroughly enjoyable co-op adventures as well as casual ways to pass some time. It also doesn’t hurt that each blood-soaked action romp stars thousands of rotting zombies that perish in a blaze of gore. With this in mind, we cannot wait to download the next piece of downloadable content, The Sacrifice, which debuts October 5th for Xbox Live and Steam (PC).
This exciting chapter serves as the prequel to The Passing, a downloadable episode where the original Left 4 Dead survivors encounter the new crew from Left 4 Dead 2. That said, The Sacrifice details the events that led to that point, as the group make their way south through swarms of undead freaks.
That means you’ll once again step into the shoes of Francis, Bill, Zoey or Louis, except there’s a twist. Valve plans to introduce Sacrificial Gameplay to the equation, where one survivor will give his or her life so the others may live.
When Valve sent the email with details of the Sacrifice, the representative mentioned that “players get to decide who will give their life”, leading us to believe that it may be put to a vote. You’d have to have something like that in place. Otherwise, you may run into a situation where more than one person attempts to stay behind and become a late night zombie snack. We just hope there’s a new achievement to unlock for donating one’s body to all those zombies; the DLC comes with five additional achievements.
Keep in mind that you can download The Sacrifice for both games, though it’s somewhat different, depending on which Left 4 Dead you play. With the first L4D, you receive the Sacrifice campaign with maps playable in Campaign, Versus and Survival.
Move on to Left 4 Dead 2, and you get The Sacrifice, playable with the Left 4 Dead Survivors. On top of that, you score the No Mercy campaign, and both campaigns are playable in Campaign, Versus, Survival, and Scavenge modes, featuring the Left 4 Dead 2 Special Infected, weapons and items. As Valve put it, Yes, Zoey with a chainsaw!
Finally, you can find out how events unfold by reading The Sacrifice comic series. Valve has already published the first three issues, and will release part four alongside the DLC next week. You can catch up by CLICKING HERE.
We’re huge Left 4 Dead fans, so The Sacrifice cannot arrive soon enough. As usual, us Xbox Live users will have to fork over 560 Microsoft Points/$7 to enjoy it (PC owners can download it for free), but that’s a small price to pay for all those hours spent killing zombies. Of course, we’ll post a review shortly after its release.
