LittleBigPlanet delayed worldwide

Im so tired of these stupid religious arguments and petty things causing delays with games its political correctness gone mad...

Sony said:
During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.

We will confirm the new launch date shortly.

Re: LittleBigPlanet delayed worldwide

Oh god, I heard about this over at The Escapist earlier today and I was bloody outraged, as much as I respect people's religious beliefs, what I hate is when they consider their beliefs to be more important than absolutely everything else.

You know, if I were Sony I'd have just gone ahead with it, as an athiest, I could say that removal of a musical soundtrack in such a way that decreases my enjoyment offends me also, you know, just to be picky and awkward. >_>

Its not even like the words were offensive or a slur against the religion, it was just that there were references to the Qur'an (apparently). So sick of all the crap that religion seems to interfere with when its something so petty and minor.

Re: LittleBigPlanet delayed worldwide

Its seems although some 'bodies' are looking for anything to restrain a film/game release just so they can kick up a strop about a film. Afterall, if you've played Assassins Creed "This Game was made by a multi-cultral team", does it matter? Its a story that you are going to enjoy, people are so scared these days of offending this mass religious bodies that they are willing to smother anything in red-tape and anything that can protect themselves in this respect.

I can understand if its an offensive text etc, but when its something so painfully trivial...it just, makes no sense. >.<

/rant

Anyways, IMO I think as consumers we should be allowed (at our own risk) to enjoy a game the way it was intended to be without the developers forced in a corner reguarding fine print. :ninja:

Re: LittleBigPlanet delayed worldwide

The way that some people treat religion is analogous to the mentally insane. Now if some where to slur the good name of Fable II, they should be stricken down where they stand

^Sounds like a plan, I'll grab the sporks from the "Divine Wrath Cupboard" :D

Re: LittleBigPlanet delayed worldwide

Ugh, I just don't see why people feel the need to bend over backwards to accomodate everyone's beliefs and values, granted, we're a multicultural society, but a games company shouldn't be backed into a corner because of what will more than likely turn out to be idle threats.

It just...Gets on my nerves, this is why I don't do religion.

I'm very religious, but it's just a game, and I don't know what the Qur'an, is anyway.

Re: LittleBigPlanet delayed worldwide

As someone who *does* know what the Qur'an is :-P but is (non-denominational these days, technically. Maybe a bit Transcendentalist actually >_>) Christian, I have to say I've got mixed feelings. On the one hand, I know I don't really care what references to my own religion people put in things. The prospect of forgiveness is all too easily forgotten in the first place. On the other hand, I'm not really entirely sure what the point of putting those particular lyrics (Muslim Judgement day references actually) in Little Big Planet *is*. It doesn't really seem particularly necessary to the enjoyment of the game in the first place, y'know? But it is what it is, I suppose.
