Same here, definitely one of my favorite 360 games. I haven't viewed all of the dream sequences yet, but the ones I have viewed, are very insightful and well-written. If you're new to the whole turn-based battle systems, then it'll take awhile to get the hang of it. They've already been given the green-light to start making Lost Odyssey 2, so that should be very interesting to see... especially with the new upgraded version of the Unreal Engine .
Thanks guys. I guess I should keep trying. It seems so beautiful, and I really want to see more and what happens next. It's just so frustrating to get killed so many times. Practice makes perfect, I suppose.
That's just it, keep training your characters by defeating weaker enemies to help level them up and build up more stength. Then when you think you're strong enough, you can take on those stronger boss fights, with lesser frustration of course.
I brought Lost Odyssey about 2 months ago but haven't played it a whole lot. I think I'm about 16 hours in and nearing the end of Disc 2. I think it's a beautiful game, not nearly as difficult as all the reviews made out, but some of the more emotional sequences, so far, which intend to pull on the ol' heartstrings, have been pretty weak. I won't spoil it too much for those of you who haven't gotten that far yet, but two particularly poorly scripted/choreographed scenes spring to mind, and they both involve...
Being re-united with...
your long-lost, thought-to-be-dead daughter, Mirum (sp), and later on, your wife, Sarah.
Both scenes seriously, seriously put me off the game because they were handled so shockingly bad. There were others, too, but those two always immediately spring to mind. To be honest, there are so many times during the main story where I think to myself, "What the hell?", because there seems to be no logical reason why the group would do, or say, of behave the way they do; the only thing I can think of is that the story/script-writers behind the game needed some means to lengthen certain parts of the game.
Then again, I'd probably feel the same way about the PSX/PS2 Final Fantasy games if I played them now. Now that I'm older, I tend to take a lot more notice of what's going on, story-wise, and question the reasoning behind certain things.
The combat is staring to wear a little thing as well. I find a pattern regularly emerging during fighting sequences.
Can't fault the "lost memory" sequences, though, they're fantastic. My favourite so far is the one about the old shoe maker.
Very pretty but annoying with the combat...dream sequences are well written and the cutscenes are great to watch but it's all a bit too Final Fantasy overall and not really as original gameplay wise as I had hoped.
The storyline sounds fascinating but I don't think I'll be picking it up again any time soon - the battle sequences have been too frustrating for me and I really get annoyed with having to mess about with minor enemies just for the purpose of defeating one boss in my way. All that backtracking is tedious and there isn't enough going on to get me interested enough to do the tedious bits.
Shame really as it was a game I was so looking forward to...
The combat is so unbelievably hard to me. At least with the big bosses. I don't think I'll get another one like it. I prefer faster paced games. Looking forward to the Force unleashed. The action in that really looks cool. And of course Fable 2, should be a challenge.
I personally like it a lot more than all the latest Final Fantasy games and its been my favourite RPG since FFX. The emotional scenes to me have been a lot better than most games these days that just do things that are way to obvious. The JRPG combat system is getting a little long in the tooth i think, however i think it was much better to go back to the old school style than use the annoying combat of FFXII. I think it will better Final Fantasy as it goes on and Lost Odyssey 2 will be a better game than FFXIII but FFXIII will sell more on hype and the fact its a FF game but im tired of Final Fantasy now. Im about 37 hours into Lost Odyssey so far and need to start playing it again soon and complete it.
Lost Odyssey is one of the best games I played this year the story is great the gameplay is good the voice acting was awful but still is a personal favourite

The voices for Cooke and Mack, i actually like. The Japanese voices in Lost Odyssey are awful though, where Cooke ends up having the voice of some older woman. But yeah, the woman who plays the voice of Phil & Lil from Rugrats does Cooke.. dunno who does Mack and the others, (me and Andy already knew by ear, took awhile but her voice sounded earily familiar). But the voices in Lost Odyssey I'll take anyday over what we got with Blue Dragon.
The combat is fine to me, I'm glad Sakaguchi decided to play it safe and return to his old Final Fantasy ways with Lost Odyssey, instead of pulling a FF12.
I think I just cannot get on with the JRPG combat system. In FF it bugged the hell out of me too and I really really detest piffling about with levelling up just so I can get to the next part of the game.
Im not going to spoil anything at all because its a very story/plot driven game and its the emotion you feel for the characters that makes it so good & the surprises. Ive really got to get back into playing it again, curse you GTA IV!

No not at all - it's not an online game and any downloadable content just adds extra stuff into the game, it doesn't affect whether you are able to complete it or not. It's a case of levelling up as much as you can with the minor skirmishes before you get to the boss fights and then being a little more strategic in how you deal with the bigger enemies so that you don't have to keep going over the same stuff again and again.
