Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Hey, I've got some lyrics from some of the songs my band performs.
I'd like some feedback, and maybe one day I'll get around to linking some of the actual music. Though you can find it under the 'old' band's alias "Small Town 60," (youtube) though we don't go by that anymore.

Key: E minor (kind of)
Feel: The song is up-temp0. I believe it was inspired by Incubus, and as such has a neat melody that I believe is metered in 6/8. The drums are distinctly unique and have a cut-time feel without actually being cut time. The style trys to blend a little dance with some hard blues driven rock.

Verse1
This table can't seperate,
the roses that hide your face;
you think it's all there in place,
you can't avoid that fate.
You can't look me in the eyes,
and that comes at no surprise;
what are you trying to hide?
What's real rolled over and died!

Chorus (A work in progress)

Verse2
I know that you lie awake,
heart beats at a heavy rate.
Do you know why I told you,
that makeup makes you so fake?
You cliam that you didn't know!
Couldn't see the tension grow!?
When you could cut it with a knife!
I swear I knew you were low...

Chorus

Bridge
And though it comes at no expense,
it still proves your ignorance.
I know its gotta be cold,
standing there all alone!
Alibis won't save you no more,
it's time to face the real world,
I can't hang on anymore!

Solo

Chorus

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

For Them
Verse 1
I can only imagine the fear they felt
when the day came, took their lives away.
Hundreds of people who wanted nothing more
Than to make something of their lives.

And our apologies are nothing like they used to be.
And I don’t know if they are even heard.
Just let me fall asleep to the safety of a dream.
To get by…
To get by…
Chorus
And the administration;
is tearing down the nation.
Killing us with this lie.
And are we even able?
I’m feeling so unstable…
Just sing me a sad lullaby!
Disintegration!
De-Sensitation!
Protect our children from what they see!
We’re going under,
and I don’t know if there’s anyone left,
To save me…

Verse 2
(Repeat of Verse 1…For Now)

Chorus
Bridge
Solo
(Na na na na, Na na na na…)

Chorus

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Key: C# Minor
Feel: Eerie and epic, but with a sense of driving energy. The song is now intended to be more of a masterpiece. When we wrote it, the intention was to make it more of a single-style song. Now we're working it into a more musical song, with more progressive influence. Lots of highs and lows. Comparable maybe to Coheed and Cambria's "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth," with a more steady feel.

Ballad
Verse 1
Whisper in my ear,
yeah, tell me what I want to hear.
It’s not the end, but it’s a start.
So, I’ll close my eyes;
and dream of a better place,
‘Cuz the truth’s just way too hard.

Chorus
And I’m; holding your,
Memories.
Of the; way things,
Used to be.
And I’m fighting back rain clouds,
‘cuz it’s too beautiful here;
To be swept away with just one blow.

Verse 2
Sitting by the phone
Waiting to get that call from heaven,
to relieve me of this hell.
And the mediocrity,
of a place I thought would
Be so much better by now…
A difference that you’ll never tell.

Chorus

Breakdown and Solo

Bridge into A Pre-Chorus

Chorus

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Lucky
Verse 1
And all your thoughts;
Run away with the rest,
And I tried to forget.
But you’re all out of luck!
And we’re all out of time!
And you need to decide,
Where your loyalties lie.
Say…

Chorus
And everything
You ever said!
Don’t me a thing
Words are as good as dead.
but you’ll never change
You’ll never be
An answer to a prayer
Just a bad memory…

Verse 2
And all my thoughts,
fall dead to the floor,
as you head for the door.
And you never knew!
And you couldn’t care,
where I’m coming from.
But it’s all over now…
Say..

Chorus
Just a bad memory…
Just a bad memory…
Just a bad memory, Yeah!

Solo
Chorus

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Hello.

I really like Here's That Skeleton You Were Looking For. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. It sounds like the Foo Fighters.

For the second song, For Them, were you talking about the people of 9/11? I think it needs a longer verse and for the second verse, make a new one. Great song though, I think I could hear the beat when I read it.

For the third song, Ballad, I like the chorus and the second verse. I didn't really understand the first one. I would also add a bridge, but that's just me.

The final song, Lucky, .......
Perfect. Beautiful.

You and your band keep writing songs like this, and your gonna go BIG. No question about it.

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

thanks triz!
no actually, for them is about the VT shooting. i live 2 hours away and had a lot of friends that go there and it affected alot of people i know. Our lead vocalist wrote the lyrics the day that it happened. We're writing a second verse, we just have never got around to to.
the first verse of ballad, he's just asking for someone to tell him what he wants to hear, because the truth is to hard to swallow essentially. I think matt wrote it about a girl who left him or had been cheating on him.
I'm glad you like the songs!
Most of them can be listened to on our Myspace, (in crappy video form) except for Ballad, which has a demo quality recording up.

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

When did your band form? What type of music do you play?

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

We formed in 2005 or so, as Small Town 60.
We gigged extensively for about two years. We got generally positive response and reviews, but lacked the support at home to continue.
We're taking a bit of a reprieve for the summer. We plan to get back together in August and continue to re-form the sound, as our later music was much more well received than our earlier stuff.
We play alternative / progressive rock? It's kinda grungy.
We've been described as "a more agressive Switchfoot, with an indie rock twist..." People have also compared us to the Foo Fighters, but mostly people seem to feel our music has a unique sound to it.
We're trying to form a heavy but diverse sound. Kind of like how Led Zeppelin could play Bron-Y-Aur, D'yer M'aker, Dazed and Confused, and Rock and Roll all in the same set.
Our music on our MySpace is our early work, which has either been replaced or redone to allow for some continuity of feel and genre.
Earlier works are: Ballad and Choices, a good bridging song is skeleton, and the newer sound leans toward For Them and Lucky. All of which, are available for a (crappy, video quality) listen.
MySpace.com - ST60 (Looking for Musicians!) - Radford, Virginia - Rock / Alternative - www.myspace.com/smalltown60
I may even post a poll about our new band name. (to veer away from the pop punk image that the old name branded us with)

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Switchfoot! :w00t:

Lyrically you've got some rather nice stuff there - it's hard to fully appreciate lyrics without the music to accompany them but I like these even without any tuneage. Yes, tuneage is now a word...

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Say, I checked it out and it sounds good. Choices music sounds modern Switch-foot.

And Ballad sounds like I thought it did. Yeah, pretty much the way I thought it should go. Great work tho. And even tho it sounds like Switchfoot and Foo Fighters, it's still original to me. :)

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

appreciate the feedback guys ^_^.
Did you get to watch any of the videos? For Them, Skeleton, and Lucky should have some videos to listen to.

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Adding a song:

Key: E Minor
Feel: Driving, energy. Think football, think energy drinks, think madness. When finished will resemble songs such as Foo Fighters, "The Pretender" and Coheed and Cambria's "Gravemakers and Gunslingers." It's a really fun song. You can listen to the first rough draft on our MySpace.

The Choices You Though You'd Never Have to Make
Verse 1
Yeah I know it,
it might be wrong, but;
how can it be?
When it feels so right.
You yelled at me,
with my head laid in my hands.
Everything,
turned around in a matter of seconds.

Pre Chorus:
And I'm tired of hearing the same ol' thing;
everyday.

Chorus
If you're looking for perfection,
you're never gonna' find it. (find it)
If you're looking for a way out,
you'd better start climbin' (climbin')
Cuz' we're so far down in the hole,
I don't know,
If we'll ever get out!

Verse 2
Don't you even try,
to pin this blame on me.
It was just as much your fault as it was mine!
Yeah, screamin' my name,
became and everyday thing.
But it was more bad than good...
it was more bad than good..yeah.

Pre Chorus

Chorus

Solo

Chorus

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Re: Lyrics, Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions?

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback.
I'm trying to remember the lyrics to another two songs that we do.
Our lead singer is out of commission for another month or so, and I can't get in contact with him whenever I want so it's kind of hard. haha.
But I plan to post them.
I'll also keep the forum posted on our progress in recording, so everyone can get a chance to hear them (or at least some of them).
