It was announced (or boasted) at the Developer Direct that we would get a game with something equivalent to a thousand NPCs, all with their own daily schedule and what-not. Also, marriage is back and so is the ability to have kids.
Now, here's my thought on this. Will we want to marry anyone?
You might say "well of course, if you can." And that's valid. Fable has always been about doing what you want to do. But consider how much have changed with how the gaming industry handles Romance options.
Since the release of the first Fable, Romance in video games have become an integral part of many role-playing games. Beloved franchises and games like Bioware's Mass Effect and Dragon Age series, even more recently Larian's Baldur's Gate 3, have all (in my opinion) done Romance in RPGs right. That seems to stem from one reoccurring formula: a handful of well-written and fleshed out companions with their own personalities, goals and ambitions that are fighting alongside you in your character's adventures.
Will this be something we have in Fable 2026? Are we going to have a few close NPC companions that will follow us on our quests, or even offers personal quests for us to help them with? Are we going to be able to build a romantic connection with them?
Or will he have to settle for one (or a few) out of hundreds or even thousands of NPCs with personalities as shallow as the layer of dust on top of a coffee table?
What do you all think? What would you like from this new Fable game?
