Megaman X Series

Got a question for this forum. Who's played the Megaman X series?

I've played through all of them up to X5 and X6, currently playing both. Just wanted to see some opinions on the games in general, both Megaman and Megaman X by themselves and compared. How about some of your favorite bosses, and how you beat them. Do you use their weaknesses, abuse it, or neglect it to make the battle harder? Which is your favorite of the X series? Do you prefer X or Zero, and why?

Me, I like Zero. He's girlier, but I love slashing things in a fast paced game like this. X tends to either be overpowered or too weak in most of the games. Zero is always... pretty... awesome... Anywho... I like X5 despite how easy it is sometimes, and X2. X2 is because it was my first Megaman X title, and since then it's been a quest to play them all. I used to play X4 a lot, but that one was easy (and so I consider it to be Zero training for the tougher ones). Sadly, X5 is also pretty easy, but I like the bosses for the most part, and the levels themselves can be a challenge on Xtreme.

For favorite boss it's Dark Dizzy out of prejudice... I love bats hehe.

Other than him, Blizzard Wolffang of X6 (I think that's his name) was a fun boss for me. He likes to fly about the room and shoot icicles everywhere. Not too hard and reminds me a lot of Slash Tiger of X4 but meh, still fun. On that note Slash Tiger was usually the first I'd tackle in that one, Heart tank in his stage.

In X5 Squid Angler was HARD. Not only does he fly around the room himself, but he likes to make large electrical block to impede your doges and also a clone of himself to help. Add to that his lightning attack he and his clone like to spam and he gets difficult....

Also, I play though once using weaknesses, and once trying not to afterward.

Re: Megaman X Series

I have only ever played a megaman game once and wasn't very good. Maybe now that I've had some castlvania practice I could give some of them another go.

Re: Megaman X Series

They're much faster paced than Castlevania at times. But some of the bosses in those games are... more than a pain.

Re: Megaman X Series

10 years ago I think, I remember playing Megaman X5. I liked it until I got stuck , I enjoyed how fast-paced the game was and absolutely loved the soundtrack (I have it on here I think). Some of the boss battles were good, others were tedious and annoying. It was the only one of the X series I ever played though.

Re: Megaman X Series

X5 was definetly cool, and I know you probably got stuck. They experimented a lot with that game, did a whole level up system and stuff... Depending on who you used, (and if you used X whether or not you had his awesome Falcon Armor) if you didn't get certain upgrades the endgame gets really hard. Oh and the first virus stage is... cheap/unfair/evil... so if that's where you got stuck I totally understand.

I've played most of the games in the Megaman, Megaman X and Megaman Zero series. Great games of their time. Good stories, good gameplay, good styles. Don't think I'll be returning to it though. To me, the Megaman universe has been exhausted, there isn't anything left to with it. I looked over Megaman EXE and wanted to die. Not sure if anyone remembers Megaman Legends but that one was pretty bad too.

They kind of lack replay value for the most part it's true. But I was focused namely on Megaman X and the Zero series, (which I have yet to play /sadface...). Anyway, you're right, they could only go so far with their storylines. Nowadays with these new Megaman games, it's lost its edge.

The reason the Megaman X series appealed to me so much was due to the fact it just seemed so........ hardcore I guess. Where you had to be awesome, and the movement felt fluid and cool, the wall-sliding (one of the greatest action game features ever imo) just made me delighted to be playing the game. In the later of the X series the difficulty gets quite high, especially on X6 -_- *ahem* Getting off track here... If you haven't tried X5 or X6 (despite how weird the stuff they did with X5 was... fun bosses though), which were some of the last good Megaman X games, you should really check them out someday.

As for the questions -
(Concerning bosses) Do you use their weaknesses, abuse it, or neglect it to make the battle harder?
Depends. Sometimes you can go for the weaknesses but it feels like you cheapen the battle and make it less fun. With some bosses, the weaknesses provide a way to level the playing field and make the battle less annoying.

Agreed... sometimes a bosses weakness can turn a powerful and dangerous opponent into a harmless....... nothing... On the flipside fighting such an opponent without their weakness can sometimes be more than frustrating. As in you need to be nearly perfect during the battle just to survive.

Which is your favorite of the X series?
Just the X series? Well, I really enjoyed X3. It was the first time Zero could be played. It retained a lot of game mechanics from the first two games, but it also introduced new concepts that made the game special and not just a carbon copy of the first two. Yet it didn't go too far overboard that people who have played the first two games weren't like wut when playing it.

I do not remember many of the bosses of X, X2, or X3 sadly... been a long time althought I began with those ones. I recall X and X2 being similar, but X2 felt a bit more epic. Then X3 upped the ante, making levels more complicated, items harder to get, and bosses patterns varying more. Plus it... felt more fluid, if you know what I mean. It felt like it played smoother than the previous two. X4 was easy, so you may have left off on that one, X5 and X6 didn't get much publicity after X4.

But please which of the Zero series do you think is best and... should I play them all from start to finish?

Do you prefer X or Zero, and why?
Both. They have unique strengths that should be used accordingly.

True, but does that mean you alternate usage depending on the level/boss? Just curious, as I tend to do solo runs of the games, with both zero and X, to see the differences between the whole game with each. Unfortunatly this habit has caused me to be semi-biased in that I think Zero is all around better, whereas X can be very specific (especially in later games when he gets his cooler armors) and also has a ranged charge attack as the basis of his damage dealing. Maybe I just like Zero better? cuz I think he is more skilled than X? because he has to get close and never gets armor upgrades? Maybe, but I do know I like playing as Zero more, except when they give me things only X can reach... meanies....
