Nintendo Wii & Xbox 360

"I don't see any problem with a household that has both a Wii and a 360. In fact I would expect that you'd see that, as they are very different experiences."

"I'd like to see the industry grow and be robust" Bell told Canada.com. "In many ways, I'm thankful the Wii has been as successful as it has. If the Wii does grow the market, it's good for all of us."

The Microsoft executive said he doesn't mind surging Wii sales, so long as an Xbox 360 is sitting next to Nintendo's console in homes.

"I don't see any problem with a household that has both a Wii and a 360. In fact I would expect that you'd see that, as they are very different experiences," he said.

Bell remained skeptical, however, of the popular belief that Nintendo is expanding the market to players other than just core gamers. According to his findings, Wii owners are merely former GameCube owners and Nintendo enthusiasts, not legitimate non-gamers.

"The data that I've seen has not suggested that in fact these are new gamers," he said. "It looks like they're GameCube owners and Nintendo fans."

Regardless, Bell knows where his priorities lie; winning the hotly contested console war in an effort to frolic in the piles of cash to be had in the taking.

"I think there's more than enough room for everyone, but we definitely want to win. It is our ambition to win this generation and we've never been more prepared than right now."

:ninja: If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em. If Microsoft & Nintendo were to work together, then it'll mean major bad news for Sony and the PS3. Course, it'll also mean more better games for the 360 & Wii aswell.

Re: Microsoft All Smiles & Thumbs For Nintendo...

With the 360 having a patch made for it by a modder so it can use the Wiimote im not surprised that Microsoft are happy to be along side Nintendo. Also Microsoft know that Nintendos next gen ideas cant match their own and most people who buy a Wii will buy another console too. +rep

It's no doubt that majority of the consumers who bought 2 next-gen consoles, have chosen the 360 & Wii. Hell, the Xbox 360 & Wii combined are the price of one PS3.

Especially when one of the two can do the same things as the PS3, for half the cost.

I`d say Wii motion... umm... controller thing is more next-gen than PS3 and 360 combined. It`s not anything we haven`t seen before, but... that`s just me.

In ways i would agree but motion sensors arent a new idea its just they have never been used in mainstream games. They still havent really captured the mainstream either as its mainly small novelty titles that use it. All depends on how you define next gen, as i wouldnt really base GFX on the term as they improve every year anyway and thats expected. However its the 360 and PS3 that are surpassing the old tech with consoles using Hard Drives, HD, and Blu Ray and thats true next gen stuff for consoles where the Wii is stuck using old Flash cards.

Personally, i think Nintendo's best bet would've been to not only focus on the Wii's gameplay format, but to also improve on it's power, though it's stronger than the Gamecube by alittle, it's power is nothing compared to PS3 & 360..and that's where the life of the Wii becomes thinner. Seriously, if the Wii had the same power as the 360, it would be a looong time before it faces sale challenges further into the future. Cause i can see alot of badass games that look beautiful on the PS3 & 360, that would work amazingly well with the Wii's gameplay format, but..because it lacks in power...well... :hmm:

Yes, thats what I was trying to say.

And thats true also, it really depends...
Nintendo was brave enough not to follow the same path as Sony & Microsoft, they chose innovative gameplay over graphics. I hope they wont abandon it and try to make even more new things. It`s good to have variety.

They are doing well by capitalising on innovation, they know they cant compete with the GFX, physics, and scale of games of the PS3 and Xbox 360. They will always rely on the innovation and fun factor in all their games which is a good thing for gamers. However the Wii really needs a hard drive as the flash cards are getting to small now.

Who knows, maybe someday Nintendo will come up with something really fun and new.

Re: Microsoft All Smiles & Thumbs For Nintendo...

The Wii remotey thing is just a gimmick. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun gimmick, but I got over it pretty quickly
