It's no surprise that many core gamers are still skeptical and even downright unattracted to the new Xbox 360 peripheral that has taken casual gamers by storm. Many have voiced the opinion that they'd prefer to not be flailing their body in front of their TV screen and would much prefer the use of the traditional controller, and thus will never waste their time with such a product. Well, Microsoft thinks differently and assures the public that eventually the core gamers will not be able to ignore the new device forever.
To quote the senior product manager of the Xbox, David Dennis, who feels that games such as Ryse and Rise of Nightmares will change opinions:
"It's similar to last year where some of the core gaming media walked out of E3 a little skeptical about Kinect and said 'I'm never going to do that'. But a lot of them also went and bought Kinect and said 'Oh my god, I love it, I break it out when I'm having a party, I play with my girlfriend, finally I can play with my kids.' I think people have embraced Kinect and we think that a lot of what we showed at E3... whether people fully understand it now, as we open up more and more over time and explain and let people get hands-on, we think people are going to love it."
Personally I'm mixed on the Kinect, there's a few titles for it that does grab my attention and makes me think "Oh, that looks like it could be pretty fun.", but when it comes down to opening my wallet.. It's either a choice of spend my money on something I'll not spend more than an hour with (especially by myself) or get the latest game that I can comfortably kick back with on the sofa w/ a controller in hand. It's bad enough there's already too many games lined up for release this holiday season and into the next year.
But how do you guys feel? Think you'll ever get hooked to Kinect if you haven't already?
