Microsoft plans to decrease focus on backwards compatibility

Microsoft plans to decrease focus on backwards compatibility in favor of concentrating on future Xbox 360 titles.

Microsoft rep Chris Satchell
"At some point we're going to focus less on it. When you get to the end of this year there will be a reduced focus on backwards compatibility. There are so many 360 games out there. I don't know if it's important anymore."

What do you think about this?
Are there any games not on the compatability list that you want?

Ahh... hard choice, hard choice. One one hand, I wouldn't want to have to buy an XBox while I already have a 360 to play the old games, but on the other hand concentrating on future 360 games will give us (hopefully) better quality in those.

Hmm...those last two sentences could be taken as "
We don't care about the old games. Buy the 360 ones instead".

But that is just me being cynical.

I agree. Although I do realize the painstakingly horribleness they have to do to make it backwards compatible. It'll just make for more random consoles around the house. either way. I don't like it.

Re: Microsoft plans to decrease focus on backwards compatibility

well... the majority of the major titles have already been taken care of and are playable on the 360... for the few that aren't yet, they will likely take care of them first as well before stopping, hence why they said they would switch their focus in the future...
it's just not feasable to sit and painstakingly make each and every game ever made for the xbox playable on the 360, especially those which didn't do so well and have very few fans...
the fact is people bought a 360 in order to play next gen titles, if they were happy with the old games, they could have kept their old console...
backwards compatability is a nice bonus, and I'm quite pleased that all of my favourite games work on the 360... but I checked into it first before trading one for the other... if someone has an old game that wont work on the new system, it's up to them to decide whether they really want to get rid of it entirely, or perhaps just keep both systems...

Put the best way it could possibly be put in my opinion and i totally agree. Long live the Next gen, ive voted i love the idea.

I'm of mixed opinion... but then again as I am not much of a gamer in the sense that you all are, I guess my opinion won't count for too much as I shall be playing a limited selection of games, no matter what the console is.

Awww,,, of course your opinion holds as much value as anyone's... =] What if some of those few games you want to play will be playable on the 360, but the other half won't?

You just keep your xbox set up aswel, or switch them over like me (takes time and is a pain but i can do it)

Yeah well....... Darn it, was just trying to uhm...something something...for Angel. :(

Re: Microsoft plans to decrease focus on backwards compatibility

Well, seeing as we already have the original Xbox, I'm guessing we'll have to keep it as well as acquiring a 360...just gonna need a bigger shelf under the telly...

Thats ok :P

Was just saying, if people are afraid some of fave games wont play on 360 maybe they shouldnt be in to much of a rush to sell their Xbox's to save disappointment.

Re: Microsoft plans to decrease focus on backwards compatibility

Other than needing the money to buy the next console up from the one you have, I do not understand why anyone would get rid of a console when they have games that they will not be able to play on their new one...seems a bit silly to me but maybe I just don't understand how this works...

In my case it would be to save space in my broom cupboard of a room but in this instance my Xbox is downstairs and 360 is in here.
