Microsoft readies hard drive only Xbox 360 games

Effective immediately, Microsoft will not restrict the amount of hard drive space MMO game developers can use. It is unclear if non-MMO games will be allowed to require hard drives for future games on 360.

Microsoft announced yesterday that it would soon allow developers of massively multiplayer online role-playing games to require hard drive space when playing games on Xbox 360 despite the console maker's previous denial of such claims.

I wonder what developer that was :shifty:

An estimated 20% of 360 owners don't own a hard drive, which is optional for those only wanting to purchase the Core model.

That's still a market of 8+ million not too bad I'd say Plus it's something that the Xbox has over the Wii. Why not actually encourage the practice.

20% is nothing and a hard drive is more or less essential these days. Im looking forward to seeing what comes out of the games studios to use this space.

It probably doesn't help that A) Most developers can't be bothered to actually try to create a great title for the Wii with good effort and B) Sony continues to be stupid.

Not really surprising, though.

I dont recall ever seeing Force Unleashed announced for the Wii, the lightsaber combat was for Lego Star Wars 2 if i remember correctly. Also you can use Wii Remote with 360 apparently.

At least so far their only sticking to MMOs, and I hope it stays that way. I can't afford nice things easily and I don't want to be restricted to basic games. That'd call for me to unleash my own force...of huge flying, fire-breathing pythons!

Yeah, the whole subject that on that is particularly hazey. They were unsure if they were going to allow requirements or not for normal games. But I prefer to think positive and hope that I won't have to unleashe my minions.

Again, I don't have the money to afford nice things very often. One of which consisting of an HDtv. Though I had one...it broke...somehow. So unless I sell a family heirloom or even my soul, I'm not gonna be able to come close to that form of advanced media. Hell, I can't even play Dead Rising.

And though maybe someday I'd like to get my hands on the stuff, I'm afraid its just too far. Ever hear that expression "so close, yet so far"? Well this is what it means.

Yeah I don't have an HDTV either. I want to get one this Christmas but I'm not sure that I'll be able to afford it.

well HD TV's tend to be a lot pricier than an XBox Hard Drive... just get one for Xmas or something... you don't need an HDTV to play on a 360 =]

Games are getting a lot more sophisticated (misspelled). I remember when it was just a bulky grey console that took black colored games (psx)

or black and green 20 pound machine that couldn't read any disk for sh!t that screwed up when in the middle of the game. it came with a controler the size of my cat witch made me think that Bill gates was compensating 4 something :shifty:

I know that, but some games are HD res only, or will be soon enough. If they do decide that developers of normal games can require HardDrive space for the game, then that means it must only be HD res, which really sucks for the guys like me.

As for christmas...well, I'd rather not talk about that.

I'm hoping to have enough saved up by Black Friday to get an HDTV from BestBuy for cheap money. I'll probably have to settle for a smaller one than I want since I've saved up nothings so far.:getlost:

I have a feeling that the 20GB drive will drop in price soon. I don't know why but I do.

cool. i don't really want an xbox 360... ill buy it for fable 2 and dirt but thats it, i only play my xbox for fable TLC.
