Microsoft Unhappy With Overcrowded Live Marketplace

Microsoft planning a kind of overhaul for Xbox Live.

CVG said:
Microsoft is unhappy with the ability to find content on Xbox Live Marketplace, 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg has put on record.

"I think that we are not, I would say...happy with the ability to find and discover content as easily as we'd like for consumers to be able to do that," Greenberg, told MTV Multiplayer.

The feeling has caused the platform holder to start removing underperforming and poorly reviewed Xbox Live Arcade games from Marketplace.

"I think a lot of that is we built Xbox Live Marketplace for a few hundred items and now we have 17,000 items," said Greenberg. "We built a small store and we filled it with lots of lots of stuff. We're feeling some of these growing pains and [the new policy] is one of those tradeoffs we've had to make.

"Longer term, we're looking to make the ability to find content and organize the 17,000 pieces of content we have a lot better."

We've never had any problems. What's the plan then? A Giant, 720p spreadsheet?

Search engine FTW.

I think that could be a possibility personally.

Re: Microsoft Unhappy With Overcrowded Live Marketplace

Something I'd say they should work on though, is to make sure all marketplaces are updated with new content at the same time. The American one is light years ahead of the European one when it comes to content like DLC and the hottest demos.

Yeah id definitely agree with that, their digital distribution with TV shows and Movies is far superior to ours too.

Less a search engine and more of a portal, perhaps?

Why could'nt they just make a combination? I think that would be the best way to go. Right now I HATE the way you navigate around. Look at the console-rts games (C&C), that's the proper way to use a controller.

Re: Microsoft Unhappy With Overcrowded Live Marketplace

I never use the market place to be honest - anything I download is housed within the game and bypasses the need to shuffle around all the various categories. I just don't have the patience to scroll through all the crap to get to the one thing I may possibly be interested in...

Re: Microsoft Unhappy With Overcrowded Live Marketplace

What they really need is a ranking/rating system for alot of the things in Marketplace/XBLA so people can find the most enjoying games and stuff by the majority votes and amount of downloads.

As it's rather tedious just digging through the 130+ XBLA titles just to find the 50+ that are really fun and enjoying. It is a mess, hopefully they'll come up with a proper solution or an interface makeover.

Interesting read, on microsoft. They need to expand. If they want to reach everyones' taste in games and keep them interested, they would have to. I hope they don't get rid of any games though, maybe put them in a new forum,.

I was thinking the same thing but with a certain set of metatags that were approved by MS

 I dunno about that... I know Windows Vista has that, but it could very easily have it's problems. Call out a section of the dashboard and it mishears you and takes you to a streaming folder with porn in it, not a pleasant thing to happen if your family is in the room with you.

Also how the hell would it understand my half drunk slurs most the time, or me telling my dog to shut up barking... who knows what abyss of the dashboard it would take me to.
