Missing in Action: The Lost Games of Xbox

Ign posted on their website all the games that never made it onto the orginal xbox. One of them being Lionhead's game- B.C-. this game was looking very promising heres what they had to say about it.

B.C.http://uk.xbox.ign.com/objects/480/480299.html
Developer: Intrepid/Lionhead
Publisher: Microsoft

What Was Promised
Peter Molyneux loves sandbox games, but B.C. looked more promising than both Fable and Black & White. Playing the role, more or less, of God, you manipulate a tribe of cavemen, helping society to evolve. You teach them how to make fire, help them learn language and eventually spread them throughout Lionhead's fictional Fertile Crescent. At odds with you is a simian race competing for land. Lose and humanity's future looks a lot more like Planet of the Apes. With a working ecosystem and a terrifying T-Rex to boot, B.C. had the makings of a great game. So what went wrong?

When we first saw B.C. at E3 2002, Molyneux claimed the game was 50% complete. Then in late 2003, one of the more crucial members of the B.C. team, Ben Cousins, left the project for unspecified reasons. Rumors began to circulate that B.C. was in trouble. Oddly enough, a sequel to B.C. was announced before the original was ever finished. Both were put on indefinite holdhttp://uk.xbox.ign.com/articles/559/559257p1.html in October 2004. At the time of its cancellation, Molyneux said, "We hope to revive the project at a later date." Members of the B.C. team were assigned to other Lionehead projects, including Fable.
Where It Stands
According to Microsoft, which purchased Lionhead Studios in April 2006http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/700/700437p1.html, there are currently no plans to revive B.C. All of Lionhead's resources are focusing on Fable 2 and another unannounced title. The decision to revive B.C. appears to be in Molyneux's hand, but even if it sees new life, don't expect it for several more years.

Re: Missing in Action: The Lost Games of Xbox

B.C was looking amazing until they decided to scrap it, as was Starcraft Ghost. Id personally love for Shenmue III to be revived, i loved the Shenmue series so much and i really hope that the 3rd gets made at some point.

Suzuki did give a ray of hope, telling EGM that "if there's a demand for it, we'd love to make it." Shenmue may be a financially challenging title to resurrect, but Suzuki appears very enamored with the game. Can he really leave fans hanging for much longer?

IF theres demand....? I dont think ive seen much more demand for a sequel for any other title than the demand ive seen for this over the years.

Nyhuhuhuh - Starcraft: Ghost would've been awesome.

Starcraft: Ghost was the only one i could think of and it was already posted..
This is not a lost game, but one that is severely underrated and for the most part unheard of.
Game: Phantom Dust

The game was first introduced to American gamers in a demo disc exclusively available to magazine subscribers to a magazine unknown. It's graphics were of the best available for the original xbox at the time and with it's highly destructive environments and powerful attacks at the players disposal, it originally excited xbox gamers. Due to reasons unknown, it's release in the United States was under celebrated despite the positive ratings (8.5 from IGN, 81 from Metacritic, 82 from Game Rankings, and Edge with 8/10).
It's unique gameplay consisted of building an "arsenal" similar to a playing card "deck". The skills/cards were presented in the form of orbs which the player would pick up by assigning the button and use in the real time action arena. The story line was a post apocalyptic earth where the player would play through the game to learn why Earth is in the devastated form presented. Skills unlocked and arsenals unlocked in single player could be used over XBOX Live in games supporting up to four players where arsenals could be matched. Today, Phantom Dust is a rare game to come across, few copies are still in circulation.

If somehow obtained today, Phantom Dust is also compadable with the XBOX 360 through an emulator available in a basic update.

+1. The shenmue series are some of the best video games anyone could experience. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for the conclusion.

They were so advanced for their time it would be amazing to see what they were capable of on the current gen consoles.

Good post, ctj. I was actually wondering what happened to B.C. I still remember reading a really detailed featurette of it in an old copy of Xbox Gamer Magazine like it was yesterday... ^_^

Shame it never saw daylight.
