The band's name is Spaulding, but I don't know if you would call him a band.. He wrote the lyrics, sang them, played every instrument (except drums), and mixed the vocal/instrument tracks himself. Anyway, he is a good friend of mine and I said I'd help him in any way I can, so please give his stuff a listen and post your thoughts here so I can relay them to him. And if it's ok with the mods, I could also add an iTunes link where you can purchase his cd to support his work.

Each song is pretty different from the other, so give them all a try :) My fav track is Someday ;)

(and sorry for them being kinda low quality)

Though not my taste, it wasn't exactly hard to listen to. He has a nice voice and has done considerably well considering it's a one-man-band with - what I assume - limited resources.

On a whole it's a good job and-- Hold on a second... *clicks last video* CARELESS WHISPER!!?!!?!!11!!111 HOLY SWEET JESUS MARY MOTHER OF GOD

Is that good or bad...?

And yes, pretty limited.

I can't comment on the style because it's not really my type of music.

For the songwriting though... if he were my friend I'd tell him to try to be less obtuse/more directly meaningful with what he writes about. Avoid clichés and seek out more complex metaphors. But hey, that could be chalked up to a stylistic comment as well. It's the same thing I'd tell most any hip hop artist except for Kanye West's My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy. The songwriting on that album is superb.

I'd say working on the lyrics would certainly the way to go.
He doesn't do a bad job with the music, but as it is it's not very unique. However some kickass lyrics would certainly work out great since most bands of this genre have the same lyrics (as cheez pointed out).

I like his voice - it's clear and not overly rough.

Thanks everybody for giving the stuff a listen :) I've relayed all opinions and reactions to him (anonymously of course) and he always takes crit seriously and without negativity so I'm interested to see how he incorporates it into his newer work.:)
