My new computer

Hey, I'm gonna be getting a laptop soon so if anyone has any suggestions about what kind to get please leave a message! thanks.

Re: My new computer

Depends what your going to use it for.

Re: My new computer

Recent games? Or older style ones?

Re: My new computer

for gaming laptops is no good, buy a console or normal computer instead! You get better stuff for the same price, I can promise you!

But for schoolwork they are great, organizing, you can access the internet wherever you are and stuff like that.

EDIT:
I tell you, if you want to play games that have been released this year you'll have to pay for the 8500$ laptop from alienware >.>

Yeah thats what i was thinking, laptops for games are so overpriced its crazy and often dont run them as well as desktops at all. Can get some reasonable priced ones but if theres any games they cant run then most laptops cant be upgraded.

Re: My new computer

If you're going to get a laptop for gaming, then i would suggest getting an Alienware Laptop, as those laptops rank as powerful as a beastly high-end PC, and are designed for gaming (hence why they are so powerful). However, all that power comes with a steep pricetag, of about $2,000 to $3,000...so...yeah.

I'm currently on a laptop at the moment. HP Pavilion zv5000, it's a pretty nice laptop. But like most laptops, if not all (except for Dell), you can't upgrade the Video/Graphics Cards, whatever it comes with, you're stuck with it. All you can upgrade is the RAM, Hard Drive, and the batteries.

Re: My new computer

Yah thanks you guys, this is helping me make a descision, im kida leaning to the Alien something one, im getting a job in summer '08 so ill be getting some cash. ^_^

Re: My new computer

Better make sure they pay you a lot then

Dell all the way, if you're going for a laptop. Otherwise, stick with a desktop PC and pimp it :D

Re: My new computer

I'd recommend Dell's Inspiron range, definitely. Me and the missus own one each (I have an Inspiron 1520 and Angel has an Inspiron 1721). I didn't buy mine for gaming but I chose the best hardware and my Dell notebook has been able to run every game I throw at it will maximum details and full resolution (1680 x 1050 pixels) including Half-Life 2.

However, like everybody else who has mentioned it in this thread, I'd still recommend going for a desktop if you're after something to play the latest PC games. Laptops are great but Zingo said you'll definitely be able to get better hardware with a desktop at a much better price.

For example: My notebook is currently powered by a GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 graphics card but it has been toned down slightly in order to not consume quite so much power. However, I could buy a more powerful and much sexier nVidia 8800 GTX for my desktop around the same money now.

Oh yeah, and if you're loaded, definitely get a system from Alienware. I'm hoping to pick one up... one day... whenever I manage to get my hands on some cash.

Edit: Yikes! There's like a zillion grammar and punctuation errors in my post but I'll be damned if I'm gonna' tidy them up. Meh.

Re: My new computer

Thanks, i got a fairly good desktop, its 550 gb, 1g of RAM... used to play WoW on it but then i stopped.

Re: My new computer

If you want to game buy a PC end of. Even the alienware laptops aren't a patch on a desktop for the money probably not on half the money.

Please pay attention to post dates on threads as this thread is nearly 1 year old. ^_^
